I know somewhere I've read things about why the Arcade machine was Atari but the cartridge was Tengen. The reporter was interested to find out what happened. Anyone have a link, I thought the info was somewhere on Dee-Nee
IIRC, Tengen was a division of Atari that was made so that they wouldn't get the "bad press" of the fallen Atari. Not sure what you're asking for...
alec has got it right, atari developed family stadium and tengen was the nintendo label tengen used to market its products. and then we all know about the feud tengen had with nintendo, and how they created a bypass chip for their games.

Why did Tengen choose those 8 teams?
The eight teams represented in NES RBI were the division winners from the 1986 & 1987 seasons. In 1986, the Angles, Red Sox, Astros and Mets were champs. In 1987 the Tigers, Twins, Cardinals and Giants were the division champs. The player stats are also (for the most part) taken from the season in which their teams won the pennant.
I am pretty sure that the Angles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angles) were not involved in RBI Baseball.
