Title: secret team? me mac me
Post by: mortac8 on 10/27/07, 01:19:25 AM
Was there a secret Chinese team in any of the RBI series containing a player named me mac me?  I'm trying to settle a bet with a friend.  Thanks.

Welcome mortac!  I'm not an expert on RBI 2 & RBI 3 but that definitely isn't the case for the original RBI.  I remember nightwulf mentioning a secret or unused team in one of the sequels, but I think it was a team of MLB players that somehow didn't get in the game.

There is a secret team in RBI3 (http://www.cheatscodesguides.com/genesis-cheats/rbi-baseball-3/) on Genesis according to that code but I'm not sure who is on it.

me mac me sounds familiar, perhaps that was a character in a different NES baseball game?  Heck, I can't remember...

I skip checking the board on the weekend, and I miss a question about the sequels... of course.

You're almost right - MeMikeMe was the name, and it was on both RBI 2 and RBI 3.  MeMikeMe was the cleanup hitter for the "secret" team, with 70 homers and something like a .370 average (the full rosters, complete with ratings and stats, are posted somewhere here, but I haven't found the thread yet).

The secret team is usually referred to as the "Tengen Team", because their abbreviation is "TE" and some of the names appear to be the programmers.  They're the team you get to play if you beat all the teams in your league (e.g. if you pick an NL team, you have to play against another NL team first, then beat all the other teams in the NL; in RBI 3, you have to use a 1990 team).  The Tengen Team is tougher in RBI 3 than RBI 2 - in 2, the power hitters have low speed ratings, but everyone is fast (like, Vince Coleman fast) in RBI 3.

There are actually four extra rosters in the data for RBI 3, but the one with MeMikeMe is the only one I've ever seen in the game (although admittedly I've only played all the way through with one team, so it's possible that it rotates depending on what team you use).  All four hidden teams have the same stats and ratings, just different names.

If you'd like to demonstrate in order to fully satisfy the bet, the code to play against the Tengen Team in RBI 3 using the '90 Cubs is 14TRTIF44

Thanks for the help.  I found him.  Seems like he's in the NES but not the Genesis version.  Unfortunate that everyone on the Tengen team seems to ground out to the pitcher like a little girl :D
Is there a way to play as the Tengen team?
