I was doing some rbi surfing when I came across this article: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3160430
Looks like the japanese have RBI/Famista on their DSs. No word on a US release, but as far as I know, the DS has no region blocking so it looks like Ill be off trying to find an import. The game is wifi too, so you never have to play a computer.

EDIT: the name of the game is "Pro Yakyuu Famista" if you decide to look for it from an import shop/ebay.
Pro Yakyuu Famista DS at play-asia (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9g-49-en-15-yakyuu-70-23mk-43-8s.html).
Rarely the cheapest, but highly reputable.
sick.
could you play wifi with those in japan easily, though?

You can play wifi with those anywhere. The only hard part is learning the menus.
am i understanding that this thing will play famicom games?

yes and there are a lot of ones out there that you can play both nes and snes on.
i don't see an input for disks on that one...or am i just blind?
i don't want one that plays NES and SNES, i hate playing those on anything but the original console.

I doubt it has one. FDS systems aren't easy to come by themselves; working original FDS discs are extremely difficult. Since the only official peripherals to use the expansion port were the FDS and Miracle Piano Teaching System, I doubt the cloners bothered to include them.
i saw a combo famicon/disk system on ebay for $230...seems a bit steep. a disk system would be sweet...that said, i may end up buying one of those famicom clones one day...got to step up the nerdery a bit.
It would indeed. Just be aware of a few things:
- FDS discs are difficult to find. Unsealed games (games that people would actually want) hardly exist, and expect to give an arm for them.
- All magnetic media decays over time. There's no guarantee that something sealed will actually work (though it's unlikely to be unusable already).
- Nintendo sold most FDS games via kiosks in Japan. Customers could take new blank discs or old ones to be overwritten to a device in many stores and a new game would be written there on the spot. So, there are good copies of games floating around on non-Nintendo discs, which makes finding a quality product even more challenging.
i was saying that there are a lot of clones liek that. not that it was a disk system, fyi.
Required reading (http://nfggames.com/games/famicomdisksystem/) on FDS.
imported Pro Yakyuu Famista DS 2009 this morning from play-asia...game looks pretty sweet from the trailer...dont know a lick of japanese but will be up to the challenge once the game shows up from play-asia...here is a link to the trailer...short review to follow...in 5-14 business days...

interesting. i know the guy said "diving catch" and "half-swing" when they showed the players doing those actions. looks like fun.
game came late last week...have played about 20 games so far...its pretty much RBI baseball with everything being in japanese...after messing around with different settings and such i found out that there is a hard computer option...i am 0-3 in that mode...the normal level is still way tougher than rbi while the easy option is like our RBI vs the computer...there are 12 stadiums and 12 teams (more to be unlocked teams i mean)...its not quite as good as super famista 3 for the japan snes but its still a pretty solid game...makes me want to learn some japanese, if that is saying anything...
It still shocks me that no one ever thought there was enough nostalgia for RBI to port Pro Yakyuu Famista to America. It would've been pretty cheap to produce, other than the MLB/MLBPA license - just put in the new players and new team logos and translate everything (it doesn't look like this uses real stadiums, and player appearances are still generic). As far as I know, the RBI for XBox 360 is going to be new, not a port.
Then again, it took them over a decade for a new Tecmo Bowl, and Tecmo Super Bowl is probably the only NES sports game more beloved than RBI... maybe game manufacturers just don't know what they're doing.

i'll say so...i've had a $40 credit at gamestop for a few months now. once in a while, i'll stick my head in there, and i don't see anything that i want.
anyone interested in my import copy of famista 2009 for the DS...let me know...just like RBI, except all the menus are in japanese. play asia still is selling for it for 54.90 and shipping...game is in mint condition.

I have a PSP :(
I had a dream that the local library rented RBI for PSP and a few other old school games.
