Went out of town and stopped in at Nate Nate Nate's house for a little gaming.
NY @ SF-(Nate) best of 3 1SP.
Details are sketchy in the early game, but Nate runs out Reuschel in game 1 and I counter with Ojeda. NY sneaks out a 1 run win to start the series (a 2-1/3-2 game?).
Game 2. In a snafu of sorts, I start Gooden as opposed to Orosco. Gooden gives me 5+ and pitches pretty well. A misplayed flyball over my head in left-center leads to a triple by mitchell(?) and Candy gets a single to knock him in. Turns out thats all the offense needed and SF wins 1-0. IIRC Hernadez/Carter/Straw had some decent at bats off a tiring reliever in the 9th but couldnt get it done.
Game 3. Bottom 1st....Nate gets Aldrete to 3rd(bop on a fly ball/throwing to the wrong base from the outfield? some sort of fuck up) to start the game with no one out, and im forced to strike out the side. Worries me since i was unable to conserve pitches with orosco. making a sub off the cuff, Mazzili gets a rare start in the 8 hole. He singles in the 3rd. Gets forced out on Orosco's ground out, but that leads to a couple hits by Dykstra, Wilson, Carter and a 2-0 lead. Clark chips away with a longball. SF mounts another rally and ties things up an inning or so later. NY manufacturesd another run thanks to the speed at the top for a 3-2 lead. Clark goes yard again late in the game off a semi tired Ojeda to tie things up.
Nate ran out the bull pen guys 1st so he brings in Reuschel late in the game and he holds down the fort. The game drags on to the 15th inning. The whale is tired and i sneak by with some base-running speed off the top and get Dykstra in with a infild ground out. McDowell still throwing roughly 75-80 mph still has enough arm left to retire the side in the bottom half on some hard hit grounders. NY prevails 4-3. Probably the longest game ive ever played that was not HOU/STL.
Afterwards, Nate points out that even though I won the series I only scored 1 run more than him. The ultimate spin doctor. Again NY proves gritty in 1SP games.
