Just curious...and I think I know this group well enough to know the answer...but:
Do any of you guys ever intentionally foul of pitches, in an attempt to tire the pitcher quicker?
...or is there an unwritten rule that says this is bush league?
I'm also curious if you play straight or curve and 1 SP or 2 SP and how that affects your answer.
Chubbs and I used to allow fouling off pitches. But it becomes bush league after awhile, as I could tire out his starting pitcher in two or three innings. We did have a rule where it was only allowed twice. But then we just scrapped it all together. But then we just scrapped it. And we only allow one starting pitcher.
We don't have any set rule but I guess it's just one of those unwritten things that we don't do. When we're drinking, we make the batter take a drink for each foul after the second.
We use all the pitchers unless we specify beforehand that we're playing a series. Playing straight pitch though, you go through a lot of pitchers because the only advantage you have is a fresh pitcher who can throw the batter off a little bit by changing speeds.
If it's seen as something that's done intentionally, a ball slap is not out of order.
I play curve with no rule against foul off pitches
We too have a drinking rule for too many foul balls. Lipitz is the undisputed King of the 10 straight foul balls, followed by a homer. The sad things are (1) we're playing straight pitch and (2) he isn't doing it on purpose, just hates adjusting his swing...
