I never realized, Ellis Burks made his MLB debut in 1987 (See link for proof), he never should have been on the 1986 Redsox Roster.

I knew there were data discrepencies, Armas didn't have anywhere near 48 HRs, Reggies HRs are inflated, etc. But I didn't think they had players on the roster that didn't even play for that team (outside of obvious AllStar exception). I'm still astounded
well then who SHOULD have been the other PH, i mean they already had spike owen who was crappy enough? any sox fans have a clue?

Man Boston had no bench that year, even Dave Henderson only hit 1 HR. Armas was the regular CF and Baylor was the DH.
The other PH would have been Rey Quinones or Steve Lyons, I guess.
which is why the RBI makers put in burks I am sure.
I still don't think that's a good reason, he wasn't on the team. Why didn't they just put Yazstremski, then?
Becuase burks played for them in 87 and they thought they could slip it by some people. Considering that Burks came up through the Red Sox's system it is likely that he played for them in spring training in 86.

Actually, Dave Henderson wasn't necessarily a bench player for the Red Sox. He was a late season pick-up from the Mariners. He played well for the Sox in the playoffs, and was the guy who probably threw Donnie Moore over the edge. He cracked the homer that killed the Angels in the 86 playoffs
If memory serves, he played the majority of the World Series, along with Rice and Evans. I don't know if Armas was hurt, or not playing well, or what.
They shoulda put Mike Greenwell in there instead of Sullivan...but in their defense, they probably didn't know that Greenwell was gonna turn out to be so "good."
...or Sullivan so bad, for that matter...
But sullivan is so cool.....
Spike Owen came over from the Mariners with Dave Henderson. They were even on the bad side of Roger's 20 K game early in the season.
Interesting RBI History here. Mike Greenwell would have been a nice addition to the team, but his stats really started up in 1987....
According to BR, Ed Romero was the starting SS for the Red Sox in 1986, had more ABs than Owen. They should have at least put him on the bench, the .210 and 2hrs have RBI Legend written all over it...

Armas had 43 home runs in 1984, and in the game he never had 48 anyway. He has 43 which is correct.
Welcome eazy! Though Armas did have 43 dingers in 1984, the stats should have come from the Red Sox pennant-winning 1986 season. In that year he only had 11 homers. But you're right, it is 43 and not 48 homers in RBI...
Looks like they took his .264 average from 1986 but his 43 homers from 1984....
Eazy E's my boy. I introduced RBI to him and trained him to be among the top notch players in the world. I think he holds the record for mastering the game in such a short period of time - 3 months

Well done Beales, you are a true ambassador to the game of RBI. Spread the message my friend...
yeah, there are a few places where they fudged the stats. Honestly though, if I were putting together a video game and I had reggie jackson in it I would want one of his good years and not his 86 numbers.
