Okay, here's a kickass baseball trivia question...and you even get a hint, so I can tie in with RBI...
What player was a teammate with ALL of the following:
Pete Rose when he broke the all time hits record,
Cal Ripken when he broke the all time consecutive games played record,
Mark McGwire when he broke the all time single season HR record, and
Barry Bonds when he broke the all time single season HR record?
Hint: it is an RBI player--not saying if it's a hitter or a pitcher and not saying if it's NES or Arcade...
This will be NO fun if you look it up on the Internet! Rise to the challenge, Dee-Nee-ers!
???
I will gladly wager the first guess...
Eric Davis, perhaps?
Yeah. Maybe the RBI hint was too much... :-X
good guess!
I was goint to say Jesus
Wow, that is a good one. The RBI-er thing does help a lot, because Rose was with the Reds when he broke the record (in '85 or '86, right?), making it likely that the player would've been a Red. There ain't many Reds in RBI. I never realized Davis was such a vagabond, though; I remember him being with the Giants, I think, but I don't recall his stints with the Orioles or Cards. Actually, I lost track of him shortly after he went to the Dodgers with Daryl Strawberry and became crappy.
I knew that! ;)

You mean after he got cancer?
No, he was bad for a couple years before he got cancer. Injuries were the main problem, I think - I just checked his stats, and they were bad for a few years, but not as bad as I thought.
Hey! According to baseball-reference.com (http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/daviser01.shtml), Davis played for the Orioles in 1998, when McGwire broke the record. Also, Ripken broke Gehrig's record in '95, when Davis didn't play (I assume because of his cancer), and Davis was with Detroit the year before and Cincinnati the year after, so it wasn't just a minor typo. Ripken took his first day off in '98, when he was Davis' teammate, but that's not the same as breaking the record. JoeDirt, where did you get this bit of trivia?

I made it up. ;)
"Sike."
It was a trivia question during a Reds game!
OK Guys, I have some trivia, which RBIer was witness for the following events:
Canseco's 40-40 season
Nolan Ryan's 6th No-no
Mike Schmidt's 500th home run
Joe Dimaggio retires
Cy Young's 500th win
Washington crosses the Delaware River
Normans invade England
Mesozoic Era Ends
Universe cools to 3000 degrees Kelvin
hint: he's an all star (http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/old-man-franco).
That's actually a good point by Beef. Davis was the Comeback Player of the Year for the O's in '98. He played with the Reds in '96 after a brief retirement. I, probably like everyone, took the trivia question at face value. He was teammates of all of those guys, but Beef is right on the McGwire and Ripken points. I'm not even sure if Davis played in '95.
...only thing I can think of is that perhaps they meant that he was teammates of all of these record holders--not necessarily when they broke their record...
...but that's not how they worded it!
Great article on Franco! Be sure and read that one...
Great article. I didn't know Julio was THAT old. 45 is up there. He stole over 30 bases his rookie year. That's awesome.
