Title: RBI 2007
Post by: Re-Peat on 06/11/08, 03:38:38 PM
I've started making a ROM with 2007 playoff teams/players/stats/etc.  I'll also add the All Stars if I can find them i the baseball reference.

I wanted to check before I spend too much time to make sure this isn't already done, and that I'm not wasting my time doing a duplicate someone else's effort...

I might also start in on a 2006 ROM after 2007.  Afterall that was the year my Cardinals won the series!

I'll be away on business next week (Toronto... fun!) so I'll have lots of time in the evenings to waste on this...  Anyone else have good ideas for ROMs that they'd like me to try?

I think I made a start on a 2007 ROM during the playoffs last year, but I got busy with work and didn't get too far... I think I made it public, if you want to try loading it up in the editor.

Thanks beefy, but I've already got all the team names and color entered, as well as half of the batting orders.

If you got farther than that I'd be interested...

That's about all I'd done - I had about half the teams' batting orders and stats, but no ratings yet.

How are you assigning your ratings?  Some sort of formula, basing it on a current console game, or just winging it (like the original programmers)?

I was just going to wing it loosely based on stats for the year and my won personal extensive knowledge of each player's ability for contact power and speed  ;D

I'm an avid fantasy baseball player as well as baseball watcher so I do have a pretty decent handle on how guys should play in RBI...  I think I can wing it pretty well.  The tough spot will be how the bench players (who I kow little about) will bat.

I'm also going to optimize AL squads for RBI's NL format, so Hafner and Ortiz will be included.

Ortiz will play much like Darrel Evans... that's how I'm going to be deciding how to use the power/contact/speed ratings.

Utley will play like Strawberry.

Soriano will play like Reggie.

And so on...

Obviously, some tweaking may be done here and there, but to start with I'm going to stick with using RBIers as a template and then test it and see where the problems are.  It'll be my first attempt, I think 2008's will be better!

Indeed, give it a whirl and just wing it for season one.  Refine for season #2...

Keep us up to date with progress and attach the ROM to this thread when you are done.  I'll add it to the ROMs page.

I did one not too long ago if you want to check it out.  It's called 2007playoffsAllStar in the RBI editor.

Solid work suckerpunch...  I don't think I'm going to top that to be honest.

I still have an itch to build a ROM but I'm not 100% inspired on any particular idea.  Is there any demand for a type of ROM?  Should I start a poll to get some ideas maybe?  I'd prefer something modern.

ideas:

2007 AL (top ten)
2007 NL (top ten)
2008 Top ten (as of today... Bos, TB, ChW, LAA, Oak, Phi, Fla, ChC, Stl, Ari)
Ice Hockey Style...  mix of 3 types of guys: powerful/slow, weak/fast, average/average.

Post a couple more ideas and I'll get to work.  Trust me, I'll have little else to do in my hotel room in Toronto...

Might as well just sit naked and watch the Jays/Mariners game.

Sit naked and see an Australian Rules Football game? If I'm not mistaken, they play the full 18x18 version of the game, as opposed to the 8x8 version they play below the border.

Thanks Re-Peat.  It was my first effort.  I wanted a ROM with the Rockies and that may be the last time they have a good team.

You know sucker, after playing the ROM I think I need to retract my statement, as the ROM has a serious flaw.

For some reason, JD Drew is allowed to play a full 9 innings without getting an injury (strained muscle, hangnail, prolapsed vagina... you know his usual ailments).  That's just pure fiction.

Other than that lack of realism it's been really fun to play!!

Awesome Re-Peat!  I'll have to AIM you sometime to play online.
