Last night in Man vs. Comp action, I fouled off 17 straight pitches with Pedro Guerrero against Doc Gooden.
Probably not a record or anything, just amusing. That wore out Gooden so much I went on to score 14 runs in the inning. Doc was topping out at about 45 mph after that...the Hawk turned one of those pitches down the middle into a homer that's still going.
Same game: two inside-the-park homers by Fatty Fernando.
17 fouls should be renamed the "Appling" since the story goes that he fouled off 17 straight off of Dizzy Dean (I think), just for fun until Dean walked halfway down the mound and told him that the 'next one would be right down the middle, if there's one after that it'll be in your ear'
Bob Feller was the pitcher, but yeah, it was Appling. Feller ended up throwing a no-no.
I assume you were intentionally fouling... did you give up after 17, or accidentally hit one fair (or miss)?
It was a long inning for Doc, I had actually roughed him up earlier in the inning and he started throwing much slower. Rustiness, combined with eagerness to tatoo his 60 mph, down-the-plate "fastballs," I was swinging way too early. After about 7 fouls I tried to foul purposefully.
Pedro ended up lining a rocket over the left field fence, one of 10 HRs I had for the shortened game.
