Title: Catcher running home glitch
Post by: Re-Peat on 07/02/08, 03:50:32 PM
I ran into an interesting glitch today, I think I'd have a hard time replicating it...

Here's the scenario:  There's less than 2 outs, and I have a man on 3rd base.  I'm playing the computer (otherwise this glitch would be trivial).

My batter hits a soaring foul ball back and to the left, which the catcher turns into an easy out.  Screwing around, I have my guy on 3rd start towards home.  I know he can't make it becasue the pitcher has already moved in to cover home plate, and it's a short throw to an out.  Instead of throwing, the catcher runs towards home, to home, and past home into right field.  I took off for home again and the catcher did not stop to throw to home.  I got a free run and the catcher got to see what all that fuss about a warning track was all about.

This is halfway between glitch (he didn't stop at home) and stupid AI (he didn't turn and throw once he was past home), but it was interesting and entertaining nonetheless.  20 years later and still finding weird things in the game...  what a classic!

Since home is the catcher's base to cover, he runs there instead of making the throw.  The occasional glitch that happened is that his run to home actually missed home (probably just by a tiny bit) so he kept going past home.  I've seen the run past the base glitch, however never with the catcher against the CPU.
