There is a video game store by my house and I stopped in to see if there was any NES games in that I might want to pick up. I saw they had a copy of RBI (for $12 no less) , and decided to strike up some conversation about it.
That's when the salesman tried to tell me that "This is one of the more rare games for NES
>:(
I don't stand for that type of RBI heresy, so I left. They also were trying to get $18 for Super Tecmo Bowl. >:(
If you see EBay, 2/3rds of those bastards list RBI as rare. I guess the black cart is rarer than the grey, but it's still one of the most common games out there...
Yeah, they always say RARE when they list on Ebay, of course, there's always 50+ for sale, usually going for $1.00 + shipping, at most totaling $4.00 unless box and instructions are included
The black cart is rarer? I've never actually seen a gray RBI cart before; I had a couple friends with the black cart, and that's the only one I've seen in used game stores. And as for Tecmo Super Bowl, I thought every single NES-owner on Earth had that game. RBI wasn't as popular, but calling it "rare" is a stretch. Sounds like the place you were at would try to charge $5 for a Super Mario/Duck Hunt cart.
RBI 3, however, is a rare game, for those of us that acknowledge its existence. RBI 2 falls somewhere in between; I guess it's common enough that Gantry has a copy lying around, according to the NES Victory list.
I also have seen (in person) many copies of black cart but I've never seen the gray cart.
Same here. Never seen the grey. I may have to get one from ebay just for the hell of it.
I used to have a grey cartridge. That was my original copy. Now I have Chubbs' black copy (I also have his cords/my Nintendo) and my brother's black copy. I haven't seen a grey cartridge since I lost mine.
Super Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Bowl are almost impossible to find at game shops. Trust me. I looked for almost two months at about 4 shops in my area. I ended up settling for a 30 dollar deal for both on EBay. Great buy. I fucking love Super Tecmo.
I think part of the problem with finding the Tecmo Bowl games is that no one wants to sell them. My copy barely works (the graphics deteriorate as the game progresses), and I'm not parting with it. I seem to recall seeing one or two of each at a used game place here, though.
Here's both for $15 Buy it Now, you can usually find them for $5-7 each.

Looks like the grey version is more rare, guess our experience is the opposite. Learn something new every day...

Sounds like the contacts at the bottom of the cart are going out. The best 99 cent solution for fixing old/dirty games is rubbing alcohol. I used it on a few carts that never worked for me and they started working on the first try. Use a qtip, clean both sides and let dry...
I always thought Super Tecmo was kinda hard to find. I always had to play my cousin's copy because I honestly couldn't find it in stores even when it was new.
L@@K!!! Rare RBI for NES-- NO RES!!!
It's all horseshit
Add a new FAQ item about the carts (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#RARE)
Which RBI Cartridge is more rare?
Contrary to what people say on EBay, RBI is not rare at all. There are large numbers of both the grey and black cartridge out there. Though it appears as if they grey cartridge is more rare.

I don't like "more rare" what's a better way to say that?
rarer
Wasn't sure if that was actually a word...
spellchecker didn't puke on it...but it sure as hell looks like a made up word to me too.
Yeah, didn't THINK RBI was that rare. But honestly, I have never seen the gray RBI. Mine's ol' blackie.
And Gantry, I think it's either/or. Why does the most common language (and the one forced on everyone) have to be the most cob-jobbed language in the history of man? *goes off somewhere, ranting*

Good point. It's one of the hardest languages to learn because it's so damn inconsistent. I think we use it for the same reason we use inches and feet...just to fuck with people.

I thought we still used them because it's easier to say when we're angry.
"I'm gonna beat you within a centimeter of your life!"? Come on now! ;D
