Title: Today is a National Holiday
Post by: Gantry on 05/18/04, 11:54:59 AM
The great Reggie Jackson (http://www.baseball-reference.com/j/jacksre01.shtml) turns 58 today.  Discuss the man, the myth, the legend...

To me, he's hands down the best player in RBI Baseball.  He's also one of the best RBI players in terms of real life.  Mr. Clutch on and off the field of RBI.

Attached is a picture of Reggie potsie found in a beef jerkey container:

I think Reggie should come out of retirement, until age 65, as a DH and try to push his HR total to 600.  I bet he can still crack 5 - 10 homers a year if he really tried.

do baseball players get shorted if they retire early? do they have to stick with it 'till thier 65 to get the "Full Retirement package"?

I forgot what the pension age is for MLB'ers, someone like sucka would know that.  I remember Julio Franco saying (joking?) that he'd like to collect both a pension and salary at the same time.  Maybe it's 45...

The yanks should call up Jackson strictly for the playoffs.  Will get at least 2 pinch-hit dingers...

Fuck that the A's want him!!!!
The A's are having a weekend to honour him on the 22nd and 23rd!!!!  They are giving away an action figure and bobblehead, plus retiring his number 9!

Reggie did win a title or two with the A's.  Everyone forgets that because of his Mr. October heroics.

He was also an ASU Sun Devil.  Kinda crazy.

Is that picture from those beef jerky containers that came in chew tins?  I used to love those.  Nothing like promoting the use of spit tobacco to kids with cool beef jerky containers.

Reggie
-a pathetic attempt at poetic alliteration by fknmclane

You have a big bat
You hit balls farther than most
You hit balls harder than most
You loved to verbally kick Billy Martin in the balls

You are the straw that stirs the drink
You are a force to be reckoned with
You wear terribly ugly glasses
You must kill the queen

You are an RBI legend
You are saluted by all at dee nee

Try 5 division titles and three world championships with that A's.  Both more than he won in NY!!!

Reggie has a below-par day on his birthday, at least for him.  Might have gotten three dingers in the last game, but am not positive.  Got out twice in every game, which is atypical for Potatoes...

But we came up with a new rule today - if an RBI'er has a birthday, everyone in the house has to drink the standard amount of RBI drinks.  So if Potatoes gets a double, the entire house drinks two.  Worked pretty well...
