Hello all,
Some of you may remember me from '02, when I was most active on this forum (with my counterpart Bban), or from the few posts I made in late '04. I apologize for taking such a long time off from this forum, but, you know, life gets in the way. Anyway, a quick update:
I'm living in Boston (haven't left Massachusetts, or "Chowdah Mecca" as Gwynn3K once put it). Bban lives in California, and is about to get married. We see each other once or twice a year, and generally make time for a series or two in RBI (we don't play online, for whatever reason - we really have no excuse for it). Though we are apart, our love for (some might say obsession for) this game has never wavered. It is still a frequent topic of our discussions. For Christmas '06, Bban gave me his NES system and only copy of RBI (the one we used to play when we shared an apartment). It was perhaps the greatest gift I've ever received. Most people would wonder how that could be, but you know.
This morning we began the great undertaking, via email, of drafting our RBI 'dream teams' from the RBI 1 rosters (All Star teams included). The rules: 20 picks per side, 13 hitters (9 starters, including a DH) and 7 pitchers (4 starters). We're 1/4 done. Bban had the first pick, since he has the (much) better won/lost record in our matchups over the years. Here are our first five picks (B=Bban, T=me):
1 B - Alan Trammel, SS
2 T - Will Clark, 1B
3 B - Darell Evans, 1B
4 T - Andre Dawson, OF
5 B - Eric Davis, OF
6 T - Darryl Strawberry, OF
7 B - Michael Jack Schmidt, 3B
8 T - George Bell, OF
9 B - Matt Nokes, C
10 T - Reggie Jackson, OF/DH
I will post the full draft results as soon as we're done. Now, if only we could put these teams on that two-colored field.
Anyway, it's great to see that this forum is still active. I will never forget the day I first stumbled upon this site back in '02 - I called Bban immediately. We could not believe there were others out there, our age, who loved the game of RBI as much as we did/do. Thanks to Gantry and the rest of you for all of the effort you have put into this.
Take care,
Todd (t)
Will Clark 2nd overall?
I concur, the first time I saw this site I couldn't believe it, not just for the site but the abundance of info about the game. My buddy up the street from me growing up and I played for years and we even kept stats while we played. I wish I still had them. We played the arcade version once in awhile at the local bowling alley it was the cocktail version. Much different from the NES version in my opinion.
Will Clark was a nostalgic pick more than anything. He was my favorite player back in the day. But it's not like he doesn't hit - he's always a monster when I play with San Fran. Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting The Thrill is a better hitter than Darrell Evans is (Evans is probably the best hitter in RBI) - I just like him more.

You can (http://nightwulf.rbicentral.com/rbi-editor/) (although only on a computer, not on an NES). Since you're using existing players, it should be pretty easy to put together your teams using the "Switch" function on the editor.
Rack = Bban?

Rack = Bban?
Don't think so - he's only ever been known as Bban on this forum.

Nice. I'm going to look into this. Anyone have any suggestions for playing RBI on a Mac?

Oh, got ya. Bban loves Nokes. I'm surprised he didn't take him at #1.
Hey There all,
It has been far too long...I felt out of the loop...but like a good friend....you can just pick up and get right back into it...
Yes....Matty Nokes....He was picked a bit high...but with the format we are doing...C's are slim...and he's the best around...
I love Brookens...and he will be mine soon...
its good to be back...
Bban
Great to see you posting again, B. Hell, great to see myself posting. It's like riding a bike, this forum, is it not?
By the way, Kirk Gibson just went 23rd in our draft. Altzheimers kicking in early?

Who do you think got the best of the draft?
t, a few names I'm surprised that weren't picked....especially by us
Candyman
Chili
Donny Baylor
Gaetti
Brunsky
Madlock
Heath
Davidson
Hurst
Vince Coleman
That Nokes pick doesn't look so bad next to taking Pena when Carter and Laudner are available. I also question the pick of Boggs over Gaetti.
bban over t in five games.
Those would both be some fun teams to play with.
Thanks for your support Beef...
You picked up the two flaws I had with t's squad... Otherwise it would be a rough go for any pitcher.... But hopefully with the wonders of the internet... We can play it out soon...
Don't underestimate Pena, or as we like to call him "The Heartbeat". He's good for a few long balls and has surprising gap power. I passed on "Nel" Carter intentionally, and would do it again. He's never done anything for me.
By the way, my first baseman is Will Clark, not Jack. Just wanted to make that distinction.
bban is good people
I thank you Ryno...and I hope you find happiness on your new team...I'm happy to see you have the stache rocking....if you have any liphair related questions...go see the dali llama....tom brookens
Holy shit bban & t, welcome back buddies!!!
Gantry.....as always...a pleasure....I've decided to drop the "ban" and just go as the singular "B"....its what t usually calls me anyways...but we are humbled to still be a part of the community...and we are going to commit ourselves to staying more involved...if only we could get messabiscuts back in here....however...he may be a little more busy than we are....

Ha! I had no idea that a DKM member was on Dee-Nee, looks like he is doing well for himself...
he is...im not sure if I'm in trouble for letting the secret out...but whatever....he'll always be messa to me....
Well he hasn't posted since 2002 so I'm sure he isn't overly concerned about protecting his forum identity. Maybe he'll come back one day like yall did....
i feel like he's lost the zeal for the game...i know as recently as last year he had gotten back into video baseball...but with MLB the show for the playstations....must be easier to play on the road...but when I see him in a couple weeks...you can be sure he will be reminded of where he came from...
I applaud the name change, B, and the new sig.
No doubt the principles of hard work, commitment, passion, and excellence we passed on to Messa through his RBI education have inspired his great work in the Dropkicks. He'd probably say the same if you asked him. Truth is, though, he gave up on the game far too soon. He's like Josh Hamilton, only he never came back to prove that the hype was indeed real. Instead, we have memories of an impatient apprentice, throwing his NES controller after every mistake at anything within chord distance. Messa should put down that guitar, sit out the next recording session, and finish his training.
i agree wholeheartedly....if he put half the effort into his fielding practice as he does this so called "career', who knows where he could be right now....maybe make something of himself....what a waste...
and i thought you would enjoy the changes...is your sig new?
No, it's the same one I had back when we were Dee-Nee newbies. You were probably too busy waxing on about your wins back then to notice. Rude.
wow... A little sensitive? Sparky and the boys don't have time for this shit...
Sparky and the boys can eat shit.
its that kind of locker room fodder and media play that is the reason for your team getting distracted...maybe if vince wasnt so busy reading his press clippings (and then snorting a line off of them), he'd hit the ball on the ground and do his fucking job
There is no reason why anyone on that Cards team would want to read their press clippings. Perhaps ONLY do snort lines off them. But I let them use the coffee table in the Manager's office for that. I'm a big believer in team chemistry.
that explains alot
B, where in california are you?
in Berkeley.... Yourself?
dangit. you could get broiler and his crew for some games, he's bay area too. i'm central coast.... about 200 miles away. but if there was some type of tourney set up.......
well...i drive all around the california area for work...i was down in santa barbara just last week...but yes...if we had the opportunity to get together for a tourney of some sort...that might work....we shall see after my wedding in January if I can earn enough time off to make it work....
