Y'all:
Going to be a four man qualifier at the dee-nee house for the final two spots in our yearly RBI tourney. The entrants are Vit, Potsie, Sperling and Todd (newcomer, doesn't post here). Top two make it to next months final table with Lips and myself. All updates will be posted here and I'll give 'er the sticky...
Ok...we are about to get underway, but before we do so. Here's the order of the games:
Round-Robin 1:
Mark vs. Jason
Pots vs. Cratty
Round-Robin 2:
Jason vs. Cratty
Mark vs. Pots
Round-Robin 3:
Jason vs. Pots
Mark vs. Cratty
Game one still going on, but I just wanted to note that Sperling just drank 11 for foul balls. That's 14 straight fouls with Matt Nokes, all of which ended in a groundout to first...
Vit also struck out looking. In straight pitch mind you, lost track of the strikes...
Game 1. Can I get an "OH MY GOD!!" ????
Jason up 19-10 going into the top of the 8th, Mark comes up with a huge inning...getting 10 runs, to take the lead 20-10. Mark's recent mentioned favorite blared song, Atari Teenage Riot - Revolution Action, came up and Mark just came up HUGE. Jason came back in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game at 20. In the 9th, Mark got 2 runs, to make the score 22-20. Jason came back and got a leadoff homer with DeCinces. Then Joyner got on base... And it was time for REGGIE for the game, but Jason couldn't do it. Reggie flyed out to center. And then the game ended with a double play. Jason...is now demoralized.
Mark (Det) - 22, 12 homers
Jason (Ca) - 21, 15 homers
I'm riding a high right now. I should've lost. I'll take the win and now it's time to concentrate on Game 2. It'll be tough now because I have to go against Detroit.
To correct Lips' error, the 10 runs scored in the Top of the 8th made the game 20-19. Jason was 1 HR from slaughtering me in the Bottom of the 7th. He grounded out and the rest is history.
I was really scared in the Bottom of the 9th with Guillermo pitching and Jackson and Downing up with Joyner on (because of a BOP). When I got Jackson out and caught Downing's line drive and the throw was going to first base, I couldn't believe that the game was over.
It was a game for the ages and I'm glad I'm not the one who is demoralized.
DEE-NEE!!!
Game 1 of Pots-Cratty. Pots just beats Cratty up in 5...
Pots - 13, 10 homers
Cratty - 3, 2 homers
Standings:
Pots (1-0), 13 runs, 5 innings
Mark (1-0), 22 runs, 9 innings
Jason (0-1), 21 runs, 9 innings
Cratty (0-1), 3 runs, 5 innings
Jason just came back HUGE. He played with Detroit and completely whacked Mark. The game ended fast in four innings.
Mark (Ca) - 2, 1
Jason (Det) - 12, 10
Standings:
Pots (1-0), 13 runs, 5 innings
Jason (1-1), 33 runs, 13 innings
Mark (1-1), 24 runs, 13 innings
Cratty (0-1), 3 runs, 5 innings
Well, Potsie just swept Cratty. Cratty played a bit better than his first game, but Potsie was just too much for him...
Pots (Ca) - 21, 12 homers
Cratty (Det) - 14, 14 homers
Standings:
Pots (2-0), 34 runs, 14 innings
Jason (1-1), 33 runs, 13 innings
Mark (1-1), 24 runs, 13 innings
Cratty (0-2), 17 runs, 14 innings
Cratty continues to get shelled - this time it took 6 innings...
Jason (Det) - 19, 11 homers
Cratty (Bo) - 8, 3 homers
Standings:
Pots (2-0), 34 runs, 14 innings
Jason (2-1), 52 runs, 19 innings
Mark (1-1), 24 runs, 13 innings
Cratty (0-3), 25 runs, 20 innings
Wow...what an ending!!!! Mark was up 12-3 with three innings to go, but Potsie came storming back. With innings of 3 runs, 3 runs, and 2 runs...he just came up short. I'm sure Mark will go more into it...
Mark (Det) - 12, 7 homers
Pots (Ca) - 11, 9 homers
Standings:
Jason (2-1), 52 runs, 19 innings
Pots (2-1), 45 runs, 23 innings
Mark (2-1), 36 runs, 22 innings
Cratty (0-3), 25 runs, 20 innings
F'ugly...that's all I have to say. At least I won though. Now for the California experiment Part II.
Lips would consider this past game as Gawful.
We'll definitely have to post the video of the final out of that game. It involved a 2-run lead, 2 on, 2 outs, bottom of the 9th, a BOP, a throw to an empty base and a play at the plate. Most solid...
Jason came out big and finished Cratty in 3 innings.
Jason (Ca) - 14, 10 homers
Cratty (Det) - 3, 3 homers
Standings:
Jason (3-1), 66 runs, 22 innings
Pots (2-1), 45 runs, 23 innings
Mark (2-1), 36 runs, 22 innings
Cratty (0-4), 28 runs, 23 innings
Potsie and Mark duking it out, but a new entry for the Potsie Hall of Shame (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/potshame.shtml) - he just struck out looking and got caught stealing on the same pitch. I remind you were are playing straight pitch and nobody ever steals bases anymore. That is the third strikeout today (Jason, Cratty, Potsie) - total amateur night...
Potsie just slaughtered Mark in 8 innings.
Mark (Ca) - 9, 9 homers
Pots (Det) - 19, 10 homers
Here are the standings. The upcoming series between Jason and Potsie is just HUGE!!!!
Standings:
Jason (3-1), 66 runs, 22 innings
Pots (3-1), 64 runs, 31 innings
Mark (2-2), 45 runs, 30 innings
Cratty (0-4), 28 runs, 23 innings
Go Potsie or Go Jason?
I have to take care of business, but a sweep by one of DEM and a sweep by me means I'm in.
So stressed out right now....
Ok, the biggest game to date...and Potsie just came up so fucking HUGE!!!! And with Boston, nonetheless...
Pots (Bo) - 23, 15 homers
Jason (Det) - 21, 16 homers
Standings:
Pots (4-1), 87 runs, 40 innings
Jason (3-2), 87 runs, 31 innings
Mark (2-2), 45 runs, 30 innings
Cratty (0-4), 28 runs, 23 innings
Oh so close...
Sperling up big in game one against Todd, 10-3 in the 3rd and still batting. But the dreadest NES reset comes into play and they have to start over. Todd switches teams and picks Minnesota in the replay, only the second appearance ever for the Twins...
Game going on now, pretty close...
Mark beats Cratty in 9 innings.
Mark (Det) - 16, 8 homers
Cratty (Mn) - 5, 3 homers
Standings:
Pots (4-1), 87 runs, 40 innings
Jason (3-2), 87 runs, 31 innings
Mark (3-2), 61 runs, 39 innings
Cratty (0-5), 33 runs, 32 innings
Such a shitty game reset, but at least I won.
I have to stay confident.
A win versus Todd and I'm guaranteed a 3-game playoff versus Jason.
If I win after a Potsie victory, I'm in....GO POTSIE!!!!
I'm still way too stressed out.
POTS IN IN THE TOURNEY!!!! If Mark wins his next game against Cratty, he's in. If Mark loses, Jason and Mark have to play a 1-game playoff for the final dee-nee tourney entry.
Jason (Bo) - 11, 8 homers
Pots (Dt) 14, 13 homers
Standings:
Pots (5-1), 101 runs, 49 innings
Mark (3-2), 61 runs, 39 innings
Jason (3-3), 98 runs, 40 innings
Cratty (0-5), 33 runs, 32 innings
MARK IS IN THE TOURNEY!!!! 4 innings.
Mark (Ca) - 14, 4 homers
Cratty (Det) - 2, 1 homer
Standings:
Pots (5-1), 101 runs, 49 innings
Mark (4-2), 75 runs, 43 innings
Jason (3-3), 98 runs, 40 innings
Cratty (0-6), 35 runs, 36 innings
I'm in....I'm rusty, but I'm in.
Who knows how the tourney will go next week. Lips is going to have a hard time repeating, since nobody has ever won back-to-back tournaments.
Well there is officially a glitch in the system. I did not qualify for the tourney yet outscoring everyone in the least amount of innings (Potsie had 3 more runs in 9 more innings). Outscoring Mark by 23 runs in 3 LESS innings and not making the tourney is an absolute killer. I had 3 bad innings the entire tourney, giving up 10 runs to Stehling, 9 runs to Potsie and 8 runs to Potsie. The kicker is that out of the 27 runs scored against me in those 3 innings- I would estimate that 21 of them were homers. It was utterly ridiculous, but playing straight pitch nothing I could do. My inexperience shined when it took me 3 innings to figure out how to hit Hurst with my lefty lineup of Detroit, after scoring 9 runs in 3 innings off of Clemens prior. I don't even want to talk about the let down in game 1 against Stehling.
The downside to this qualifier is that the 4th participant (Cratty) is absolutely terrible (I don't think he reads the forums *crosses fingers*). He had no legit shot at all. I'm not trying to knock Cratty at all, but when the guy you need to get a 1 win, has no shot whatsoever, it becoms pointless. So basically Potsie played a shitty game against Stehling and played the best game of his life with Boston against me and therefore I lose. I know I just had to win 1 game against Potsie to advance, but when one person stands no chance whatesoever, what is the point of having them in the tourney. I didn't realize that he was that bad. Next time, we find someone that has a fighting chance or just do a 3 man tourney, where RPI from the first 2 games gets pick of team in the 3rd game between those teams.
Ok, I'm done ranting. But I'm telling you. When you have the best tourney and lose...it is NOT a good feeling.
It's a good thing that I don't have an anger management problem!
Jason was playing a fine tourney, but you have to win the games. Not finishing up Mark in game one came back to haunt him...
Thanks for the reset guys. Truly classic material.
Great recap guys. Classic Vitb rant at the end, even if it didn't make much sense.
Great recap. I felt lik I was there. I knew Vit wouldn't go down without selling us on why he should be in.
