Title: dee-nee updates for 5/31/2004
Post by: Gantry on 05/31/04, 05:24:29 PM
Kind of worthless, since the top threads this week cover it all, but anyway...

Our final RBI qualifier was this weekend, with Potsie and Sperling joining Lipitz and myself in next weekend's yearly RBI Tournament. Our RBI Tourneys are a big deal around these parts, and I'm very happy to see the original Dee-Nee lineup make it to the final round. Jason (aka Vitb6 on the forums played great, but couldn't win out the close games. All the scores are posted in this forum thread and we made sure to get plenty of video footage. There's some good stuff in there, check back for some video updates....

In website updates, I only added Reggie Jackson's retired #9 for the Athletics to the RBI Miscellany Page. But be sure to checkout resident RBI techincal guru nightwulf's updated RBI editor with tons of updated features. This is without a doubt the best way to make your own RBI ROMs, so get on it...

Two more music reviews - Madness and Gang of Four.

Thanks for the update BTW, if it wasn't for you I'd have a front-page update with no updates...

Nice update.

As for the Gang of Four review:  I couldn't have said it better myself.  Entertainment is supposed to be this great, kick-ass album that is highly influential.  Like you, that's what I have read numerous times.  All I could say after listening to it was blah!  Nothing great.  Not terrible but not good either.  I was extremely disappointed and didn't think it offered a whole lot.

I remember you mentioning that before, I'm glad someone agrees with me.  They seems to have influenced every musician under the sun if you read about them.  Am I crazy in thinking they sound like a stripped down Devo?  Not as good, but that's what comes in my head when I hear it...

Your assessment is probably pretty accurate, although I really like Devo and have trouble putting the two together.  I just didn't think there was anything punk about it and just find it very noisy, if that makes any sense at all.
