blahblah I've posted background before. 2004 mod, burned to NES cartridge, Sox vs. Yanks, my friend is back from abroad and we both got our first RBI in many months tonight
Game 1: Manny hit a 3 run bomb in the 3rd and it was all downhill from there for Mike's Yankees, as the Sox held on to win 9-1 (scoring on a groundout in the 8th).
Game 2: The Yanks had lots of scoring opportunities but kept stranding men early on, while the Red Sox had only one hit but scored a run in the 2nd when Ortiz was intentionally walked, Varitek grounded out, Millar singled and then Mueller was ACCIDENTALLY hit, allowing Dave Roberts to drive in a run on a force out. Arod homered off Schilling in the 7th to tie it. Schilling and El Duque each lasted 8 innings, with El Duque only allowing ONE hit (although that hit led to a run) versus 8 or so for Schilling. It went to extra innings, with Mussina coming in for the Yanks in the 9th and Foulke coming in for the Sox. Again, the Yankees had several scoring opportunities but could not push across a run. Finally, the Sox bats awoke, enough to leave lots of men stranded and hit into several GIDPs. Wakefield replaced Foulke for 3 1/3 innings, and ultimately got the win when Varitek hit a two run walkoff to left.
Standings:
Sox: 2 wins
Yanks: 0 wins
Game 3: Schilling @ El Duque
Schilling doubled twice while mowing down opposing batters. The Red Sox got an early run when a misplayed ball resulted in a triple, and the runner scored on a groundout. Schilling tried to pitch into the 8th, but after retiring Jeter ARod hammered a longball out of the park in left to tie the game up 1-1. Wakefield came in to get the next 5 outs. It went to extra innings, and in the 11th Dave Roberts scored on Damon's RBI single. The Yankees were unable to respond and went down 2-1 in 11 innings.
Game 4: El Duque @ Pedro
The Sox put up 2 runs early with a Manny 2-run bomb in the 4th, then Millar smacked a double to the gap in the 5th to make it 4-0. Yanks put two on the board on a Sheffield dinger, but Ortiz hit a liner off the foul pole to make it 5-2, which stood up as the final. Pedro pitched the complete game effort.
Kinda forgetting exact stuff, it was many hours and drinks ago
Game 5, El Duque @ Pedro
4 runs in the 2nd is all that Boston needed. The Yankees got a run back on a roundtripper after an overthrow to third, but went down 6-2 as Pedro pitched the CG and the Sox never used a pinch hitter.
Game 6, Schilling @ El Duque
Arod and Sheffield went back to back in the 1st to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead. The Red Sox got a run back on a ground out, and then went ahead with a 2-run double in the 7th off a tired El Duque when the centerfielder misjudged the ball AND got an error on the bounce. 3-2 held up as the final, Sox win.
Game 7, El Duque @ Pedro
Close game til a 5-run-fifth for the Sox, gg
Game 8, Schilling @ El Duque
Damon singled to lead off the first, stole second, and scored on a ManRam single for the first inning lead. The Yankees put some runners on early (partially due to greatly improved plate discipline, taking two full count walks) but couldn't get anything across. In the top of the 7th, the Sox loaded the bases with 1 down but Varitek GIDP'd. But the Sox held the Yankees scoreless for the 1-0 final.
----
I'm starting off this year well, but seeing as it's a two man league, he'll make the World Series anyways and crush me.
Game 1: Manny homers for two runs in the first, Schilling dominates in the 4-1 victory.
Game 2: Yanks get a two-run bomb from Arod in the 4th to take the lead, but the Sox come back with three RBI singles over the 4th and 5th innings. Arod homers AGAIN in the 6th to tie it 3-3, but the Sox get a two run double from ManRam. It was looking good until the 8th, when Ruben Sierra hit a 2-run bomb to tie it. It went a long time, with many threats, but nobody scored until the bottom of the 19th, when Ortiz stole second off a tired Rivera and scored on Millar's single for the walkoff 5-6 win. John Olerud was left in the game for some reason, and racked up 4 hits. wtf.
Game 11: Pedro vs. Mussina
Jeter reaches on a leadoff error. Next hit is slapped to first for the left hit... even if Arod's a righty. Sheffield bomb makes it 3-0 in the first.
Red Sox are held hitless through 4. Yankees get another run in the 5th when a homer is pulled back in but still goes for a triple.
An error allows Millar to reach with one out in the bottom of the 5th. Mueller grounds out, but Dave Roberts gets a pinch hit single on the hit and run to make it first and third. Roberts steals second, and Kapler sends a single to center to drive in two. Damon reached, but Cabrera made the out to end the inning.
The Sox and Yanks each threatened several times in the latter innings but couldn't push anything across except for Dave Roberts' inside the park homer in the 7th. The Sox left some 5 men on base from the 6th through the 8th. Mussina got the save.
The Yankees win 4-3, for their first win of the season series
Game 13:
Sox (Schilling) @ Yanks (El Duque)
Manny Ramirez's homer started off the scoring, Kevin Millar homer grand slam in the 4th put it away, 9-2 final.
Game 14:
Yanks (El Duque) @ Sox (Pedro)
Sox take a 1-0 lead when Dave Roberts comes around to score in the 3rd. Yankees tie it in the fourth on a solo blast. Red Sox come up with another pair on a 2 run triple by Manny. Sox add another in the 5th, Yanks get one back to trail 4-2. Sox broke out with three in the 8th, and straight pitched in the 9th, and won despite giving up back-to-back-to-back homers to the Yanks, 5-7 final
Game 15:
Yanks (El Duque) @ Sox (Pedro)
Sheffield hammered a curveball out of the park for a 2-run bomb in the first, and that was all El Duque would need. He was masterful, going 8 innings without a run, and Mo Rivera got the save. The Sox were horrible at bat and in the field, making 3 errors and getting 3 hits, none for extra bases. Pedro pitched a solid 7+ innings, escaping several jams, though he did allow a homer to Posada for the 3-0 final.
Game 16:
Sox (Schilling) @ Yanks (El Duque)
After 6 innings, each team had only 1 hit. El Duque and Schilling both went 7. Each team commited an error to allow the leadoff man to reach in the 9th, but nothing came of either one. The Yankees got first and third in the bottom of the 9th with no outs but Wakefield stranded both without allowing a run. In the 11th inning, Johnny Damon hit a leadoff triple (the first and only extra base hit for either team) and scored on Cabrera's fielder's choice, accounting for a 1-0 margin of victory. The two sides combined for 24 strikeouts and only 8 hits. 0-1 (11 innings)
Nice work there Alec. Must be cool to be playing an old friend.
I must say, I can't get into any other rom except for the original and it's players. Then again, I don't have anyone to play out here. When I was home over the summer, I went undefeated against my brother's friend. He's maybe a c level player, and I felt bad about finding ways to beat him every time. Apparently my main RBI gang that I hung out with in hs (baseball team) are too grown up for RBI. Nobody wanted to play...then again, nobody had the old NES.
Your friends suck.
We both love baseball (talking, watching, playing), RBI Baseball as a game, and our seperate teams (Yanks and Sox) enough to overcome the original game. Of course, he does not have the vested interest in the old game that I had, as he only first played it a few years ago.
It's fun to play, great way to spend my days.
Game 17:
Schilling @ El Duque
Red Sox get and early 5-0 lead with key RBI hits from Cabrera and Nixon. No score til the bottom of the 9th. Schilling, still pitching despite being at 40 mph, gives up several hits, allowing 3 runs and loading up the bases for Hideki Matsui with one out. Wakefield comes in and strikes out the next two batters for the win.
Game 18:
Schilling @ El Duque
Sox got a run in the 2nd then 4 over the 6th through 8th. Manny had two solo homers and an RBI single in a 5-0 win. Pedro went 6 innings, Foulke the final 3.
POSTSEASON!
Game 1:
NYY - 4 @ BOS - 2 (10 innings)
WP: M. Mussina (1-0)
LP: K. Foulke (0-1)
HR: Olerud, Sierra
After a season where the Sox dominated the Yankees, the Sox hoped to get on the board early. They were helped out by an E8 in the bottom of the 3rd that moved Damon from first to third, allowing Manny to hit a sac fly. But the Sox stranded a pair when Varitek and Nixon grounded out back to back.
Pedro retired 14 of the first 15 he faced before Olerud hit a wallzy to right field to make it 1-3. Then, in the top of the 7th, a tiring Pedro gave up the game tying double to Posada to score Williams (2003 anybody?) and Lofton followed up with a single to right, but Posada was out at home on the play 9-3-2.
El Duque continued to pitch into the bottom of the 7th, despite being gassed like a Tokyo Subway, and somehow got Kapler, Damon and Cabrera out.
Foulke and Mussina relieved their respective starters after 7 innings, with both getting no decisions.
Hits were few and far between off of Foulke and Mussina until the top of the 10th ining. Lofton got an infield base hit to deep short, and Ruben Sierra followed with a pinch hit homer. Foulke was seen visibly swearing, as he had admitted that he was trying to "unintentionally walk him" but left one in the zone. The Sox went in order in the bottom of the 10th.
Mike Mussina got the win in relief, pitching 3 hitless, scoreless innings and striking out 5 of the 9 men he faced while walking one (an IBB to Ortiz).

I believe this is the rom we used.
It's mostly that neither of us is very patient, as well as that power numbers are down a good bit.
Ok, I don't think that's it actually, the pitching is a bit off from the real stuff, but... it's pretty close to that I think
Yankees: 4, Red Sox: 1
Sox got a run early on a Curt Schilling double in the second, but Hideki Matsui broke out of a postseason slump to hit a three run bomb off Schilling in the 6th to take a 3-1 lead. The Yanks got 3 consecutive two out hits off a "fuck it, I'm staying in" Schilling in the 7th. Mussina with the 3 inning save, striking out 5 of 9.

Game 3: Sox - 4 @ Yankees - 1
Sox get on the board with an RBI double from Manny in the 3rd, followed by an Ortiz IBB and then a Varitek RBI single. This would be all Pedro would need, as he didn't allow a baserunner in 7 1/3 innings of work. Wakefield came in in relief in the 8th and promptly gave up a single to Bernie Williams (on a horribly fielded ball) to break up the no hitter, but struck out all 5 batters he faced while allowing 3 soft singles.
Sox got two more on a 2 run double to the gap by Orlando Cabrera.

Game 4: Sox - 2 @ Yankees - 1
Sox caught a lucky break in the first, with left fielder Manny Ramirez narrowly gunning down Gary Sheffield at second on a contested play to end the innning. Both pitchers were effective, and there was little offense until Manny led off the 4th with a homer. Varitek followed up the usual intentional walk to Ortiz with a single, but Ortiz was gunned down at third by the right fielder, and Millar hit a pinch hit GIDP to end the frame. But the Yankees weren't behind long, getting a Matsui solo shot in the bottom half of the frame. El Duque was pulled after 5 1/3 with a runner on third, an uncharacteristically short outing. Mussina came in and struck out Manny and got Varitek to pop up to end the threat.
The Sox got a two out double by Cabrera with two outs in the 8th. Manny followed with a single to left, with the left fielder making an error and allowing the runner to score and Manny to advance to second on the throw for a 2-1 sox lead. Wakefield came in in relief and got the two inning save, striking out 3 and allowing 1 hit. Tom Gordon was sighted in the top of the 9th, but managed NOT to blow the game so our eyes may have been deceiving us.

Game 5: Sox - 6 @ Yanks - 2
A misplayed fly ball in the first led to an Orlando Cabrera double, and Manny knocked him in with a single to right (though he got gunned down at first in the process). Sox got a pair in the second on a Johnny Damon 2-run, 2 out homer after a misplay allowed Bellhorn to reach. The Sox added another pair with a two run inside the park homer in the 4th to make it 5-1.
Pedro was effective, not allowing a baserunner until Sheffield homered in the 4th. He got into a jam after allowing back to back hits to lead off the 4th, but retired Sierra, Lofton and Clark on two Ks and a ground out to escape the only jam of his 6 innings, 1 ER outing.
The Sox got another run on an RBI double by Manny in the 7th off Tom Gordon, who tried to keep the Yankees in the game with 4 innings of 1 run ball in the loss (despite allowing 4 hits and a walk while only striking out 3)
Keith Foulke picked up the 3 inning save, giving Tim Wakefield some rest as the Sox swept the Yankees in Yankee Stadium to take a 3-2 lead back to Fenway.
Neither team has won a home game thus far.

Game 6
Yanks - 4 @ Sox - 0
Suddenly, the Yankees regained their plate discipline, tiring opposing pitchers and working counts in their favor, and actually getting unintentional walks. Schilling was scoreless over 5 2/3, but had to be pulled in the 6th for Gary Sheffield, who promptly hit a long ball to left.
El Duque held the Sox scoreless until he was relieved by Mussina in the 6th, and Mussina dominated the rest of the way.
Tim Wakefield gave up a 3-run bomb to Matsui to put the game out of reach in the 9th (1 run charged to Foulke).
Looks like the prophecy of no team winning a home game is coming true... he regained his plate discipline while I have none whatsoever.

It was a tight game early on. With the Yankees having reacquired their plate discipline, they wore down Pedro right from the first inning. But the Sox replied with pressure of their own, loading the bases with one out in the bottom of the 4th, but Mueller grounded into a force and Dave Roberts struck out to get the yankees out of the jam.
By the 5th inning, Pedro was nearing his pitch limit, and was utterly gassed. Ater giving up a leadoff single to Olerud, he somehow managed to strike out Ruben Sierra with a 50 mph curveball. He stayed in to face the opposing catcher, who singled to right to make it first and third. Pedro was pulled from game 7 after only 4 1/3 IP, and Keith Foulke came in in relief.
But he didn't offer much relief. He promptly walked Jeter and Arod on full counts, forcing in a run. Then Sheffield scorched a grounder to short. The shortstop threw to second and on to first, but the umpire ruled that he missed the bag, allowing a run to score on the force out.
After how the Sox had been playing, the Fenway faithful though about leaving. In the bottom of the 5th, Kapler pinch hit for Foulke and hit a homer to left to trim the deficit to one. Damon popped to short, but Orlando Cabrera lined a double to the gap. Manny Ramirez stepped up, and blasted the first pitch out of the park to left, giving the Sox a 3-2 game 7 lead.
Curt Schilling came in in the top of the 6th and retired th eside in order. Mussina kept the Sox off the base paths, but Schilling did not allow a runner in 4 innings of work, even striking out the unholy trinity of Arod, Sheffield and Matsui in the top of the 8th.
The Sox put together a threat in the 8th after Manny reached on error and Ortiz was walked, but Millar lined to short on a hit and run and Manny was doubled off second.
Jorge Posada and Kenny Lofton struck out back to back in the bottom of the 9th as Schilling closed out Alec's first ever World Series victory, Game 7 at home in Fenway, by a final of 3-2
