Title: Gaging interest: 5 man RBI tourney (1-SP/ATG)
Post by: TbT on 03/10/09, 03:52:14 PM
Looking at the chicago/madison folks for this one.  Thinking about trying to organize a 5 player tourney perhaps for this summer.  Under current set up, each player gets 2 teams/1 team per half-bracket.  Done this get-up before here in dodge.  I'll see if i can find/link to a thread with a pic of how we set up the bracket.

Gameplay outline:
-Houston is tossed out
-STL gets a bye
-Of these 3 teams-MIN/SF/NY- 1will be used twice.  Randomly selected as the 10th team.  The 2nd version of the team gets a 1st round bye.  Game genie allows for same teams to play each other.

-The team match-ups are randomly created.
-Double elimination styled bracket.  Loser bracket is single game elimination to speed things along.  Loser bracket champ plays back in with shot at the title.

-draft order is set using 2 variables.  to start things off,  players are randomly numbered 1-5.  from there each player in susseccion chooses their draft pick sets.  for instance the 1st guy could choose  3rd pick in top half and 3rd pick in bottom half.  or he could choose 1st pick in top half and last pick in bottom half.  Its subjective to what teams you might be valuing in each half of the bracket.  After he chooses his draft pick set, the next guy can choose from the pick sets that are left over.

Once the draft pick sets are determined for the 5 players, the actual draft can begin.

Various variables:
-depending on the strength of that side of the bracket, STL may or may not be an appealing team to have.
-If SF is randomly selected as a bye team, that usually makes for a pretty decent team to pick.  MIN/NY not quite as much.
-With each player having 2 picks, you should have at least one squad with a bona-fide chance to win the tourney.
-"Single game elimination factor" in loser bracket usually leads to a couple upsets along the way.
-Having 5 players instead of 4 adds in an extra dimension of players available/team match-ups available to speed along tourney.

I figured moreso that houston was banned from the tourney would be the reason you would not play.

If it ends up being in Chicago, I would be down for just about anything.  I still never play curve, or really any RBI at this point.  I'll force Lips to practice with me...
