Hey bad ass site and good luck in your tournament. Sounds like a lot of fun. Just started playing the game alot again. Started hanging at this local bar and they have the arcade version there. Made me go home and dust off the old 16 bit and play again. Just wondering why down the middle. That reminds me of how my 9 year old cousin would want to play so he could actually get a hit off of me. If you guys played at a bar on the arcade game, and did not play your friends that played that infant style of mindless baseball, (aka pitching down the middle) you would get killed. There is no skill in that shit of pitching down the middle. Anyways have fun and maybe someday my st. louis buds and I will get a chance to play you guys and have some cocktails.
From the FAQ ...
"Why straight pitch? There's no skill in that!
To be honest, we play straight pitch because that is the way we have always played RBI. There are tons of homemade rules people create in RBI that seem just as silly. As far as the lack of skill/realism arguments go, they seem just as silly to me. This is a 15-year-old Nintendo game with half-sized rosters, VERY limited gameplay, erroneous stats, and unrealistic player abilities. If you want a realistic game, play something made in the last year. If you want the most skillful game, play chess. Everyone who still plays RBI does it to have fun, because it's the most enjoyable two player game ever made. And trust me, NOBODY has more fun playing RBI Baseball than we do. So if you get the most enjoyment out of curved-based RBI, then that's great. We personally prefer the high-scoring, straight-throwing, hard drinking style of RBI. Different strokes for different folks... "

Way to represent Nightwulf. Solid post.
Yeah solid post nigtwulf.... same thing listed on the site and just as mindless as pitching down the middle. I would download the emulator and whoop your ass if you and your mommy would allow curves.
Hey jackass...go to the "Tourney" link from the main page and look up Mike Beales' COTUT (Championship of the Universe Tournament).
There is one remaining spot. And the tournament is anything goes...meaning, you aren't required to pitch straight down the middle.
I agree with you that it makes little sense (to me personally) to play straight pitch, but that is no reason to be so hostile. Live and let live...the straight pitch players are every bit as enthusiastic and hardcore over RBI and THAT, my friend, is what it's all about. I say let's rejoice and celebrate the fact that RBI is beloved by so many and in so many ways...let's not belittle a fellow lover of RBI...
But mostly, I'll kick your ass at RBI playing anything goes. So join the tourney, unless you are a chicken shit who can talk all big on an Internet site but not back it up!

Actually, I play curve. The only ones who play straight-pitch exclusively that I know of are the ones living in the "dee-nee house."
So let me get this straight, you read that passage from the FAQ and then came here to taunt us with junior high wit, never taking into consideration that not every person perusing these forums plays by the rules listed in the FAQ? Congratulations; your "mommy" must be proud.

Hey not trying to act all tough on the net. There is nothing i hate more than chicken shits trying to start make believe fights and getting off on it with their Everquest buds. I will try to meet up with Joe Dirt online and play when I get home or maybe later this week. I am at the office late tonight and cant really play here. I love the game too my RBI brothers. I just dont get playing for years with the down the middle. But whatever floats your boat. Anyways talk later...
Seriously, why don't you join the tourney? It's in Chicago and will be a ton of fun!

For what it's worth, neither do I. Nothing more enjoyable than pissing off your opponent with a pitch that's called a strike but is practically unhittable. No reason to knock those who play straight-pitch though, particularly when the underlying principle of their rules is getting everyone shitfaced.

Most wise are you, Nightwulf.

Are you kidding me? You don't want nightwulf in the tourny. He would fucking mop up. Drunk chi-town boys are no match for the matrix.
I will try to do the tournament, but i have two really busy weeks coming up with even busier weekends. I am going to get some of my RBI'rs and come up to Chicago for one of those fucking Cubs games (Cardinal fan) and maybe bring the ol' 16 bit for a friendly tournament at the hotel or something. You guys can show us that alabama whatever and we'll show you the "cup of shut the fuck up". cya

If you'd like to provide my entrance fee and any expenditures, as well as transportation to and from Chicago, I'm there.

Ahem - the NES is 8-bit, not 16-bit. RBI on the SNES sucked. Also, there's a spot for the subject when you make a post; discussions would be easier if you used the same username each post, so we could tell it was you replying every time.
With that out of the way, straight pitch is fun if you want the game to be accessible to newbies, or if you play against the computer (I have no local RBI opponents, so that's what I'm usually reduced to). Also, I find fielding more fun than strikeouts. fknmclane and chubbrock play a style called "slurve", where every pitch must be over the plate - I find that pretty cool, too.

Well I didn't think you would, but I thought I'd ask anyway. :P

What bar has RBI Arcade? Sounds like a quality place to drink, would like to add it to the FAQ (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml)...
Sorry bout the 16 bit, i thought super was 32 and regular was 16, because nintendo 64 is well 64. Anyways the bar that has RBI is Donzo's in Wood River Illinois. About 15 minutes across the river from St. Louis and 10 minutes from Alton. The bar is average, just a local bar that more older guys from 30 to 50 hang out, but i am starting to notice more younger people down there. They sponsored my hockey team and i noticed the game. I have a couple of friends that play college ball and grew up playing RBI. If we are going out and it is not a big bar night to meet some ladies we go down there and get shit faced and close the place down. It's cool cause we have a tv back there for whatever decent sporting event is on and whoever is not playing is right by the game playing foosball or golden tee. It's a sight to see guys in their young twenties yelling at each over a old ass arcade game. It's a blast. Nothing like this around you?
Ben, you seem solid. Register for the site and join us!!
An RbI Bar that sponsors youth league hockey. Damn thats cool.
my brother and I and his friends have just as much fun playing RBI as you guys do. trust me. its great.
Hey i am not really sure what you meant by registering on the site. For the tournament you are having? oh yeah gantry it is a men's league.... they aren't sponsoring anyone that cant come in there bar and drink buddy you know that. Also my friend is in the process of ordering the arcade version for his house. So we'll be able to get supertite whenever.

Maybe it's the fact I'm half asleep, but I think I understand that. The way I get it is that it's an amateur leauge of some sort.

I think he thinks that you wanted his RBI bar to sponsor your tournament but this is not possible since you don't go in there and drink.
Took me two days to figure this gibberish out. I've had easier translations of sanskrit.

But I never asked to have a bar sponsor my RBI tournament. And my RBI Tournament just ended. And why wouldn't I be drinking?
Ben, get back here buddy and help us out! This is kind of like theological scholars debating bible verses. Except we're a bunch of idiots...
For one i was shit faced when I wrote that. It did not make alot of sense to me. I love that you guys have interpeted it a couple of different ways. When I read that it even had me confused. First I meant the bar would not sponsor youth hockey (under 18). I was just correcting you saying it was a men's league or beer league. No big deal. I did not mean anything about sponsoring RBI, but that would be bad ass if the tounament was sponsored. I will try to get away from my work here at the office and sign up for the forum. cya
You're all a bunch of shit eating assclowns...every last one of you
