Title: NYC un-official tournament
Post by: Big Apple RBI Champ on 08/14/02, 12:02:51 PM
Since we cannot have an official sanctioned tournament without Burks for leadoff and Blyleven No No (especially since Burks for leadoff won the last tourney)- I would like to propose a scrimmage with any interested NYC players to play RBI sometime in the next couple weeks.

Not sure why Blyleven No No has not responded to my requests to set a Harlem date.

Who's in and when can you all play?

Saturday or Sunday during the day and i might be able to make it.  During the week will not be possible for me.

I apologize Joe, it is clearly unacceptable that I haven't gotten back to you.  Burks For Leadoff was out of town for a few weeks.

Would you guys be interested in a saturday tournament this weekend??

NICE!  Good to see Jeremy is back in the mix.  Jeff and I had an intense Boston/ Detroit 3 gamer yesterday.  I lost in 3- Detroit's bullpen shut me down.  Rice must have hit into 4 6-4-3's.  When Larry Hearndon goes deep, you know it's not Rocket's day.

Can't do it this weekend.

A weekday evening tilt would work well.  Wednesday or Thursday work well for us- we could be in Harlem anytime after 5:30.

I can't make it saturday either.

Let's think next Wednesday or Thursday in Harlem, Burks For Leadoff should be back from vacation by then.

Hey GDavis, throw me a bone here, you talk up your skills and desire, but can't make it into the big apple on a weeknight??  Sounds like a convenient excuse.

I agree with BlyNoNo here.  All 4 of us play at an extremely high level.  I'm not sure you can hang.  Perfectos against your 10 year old nephew don't count.

Bly- What's format?

We'll leave both days open.

Sorry about your little leaguers.

Don't knock GDavis until you've seen him play.  You guys talked about yourselves as unbeatable before the first tourney, so anything can happen...

I'll knock GDavis all I want Gantry!!
I just don't think he has game like the other 4 players that form the nucleus of the NYC RBI crew.

It was sad the little youngsters from Harlem could not emerge victorious, I could be found watching the games on my couch screaming for Harlem as loud as I could.

Thanks Gantry, but I don't mind them talking junk, its fine.  I don't remember me ever talking up my skills and desire except for that perfect game post.
I've been starting to play with only one starter per game so I can hang with these guys, its definately a lot different than playing with 2 starters but i'm getting the hang of it.

A week from thursday, 9/5, I can make it in.  I've taken the following friday off.  If you want some on the previous week on thursday i'll see what i can do but my schedule is ass, I work way the crap out in jersey and it takes me an hour to get there.  It takes another 45 minutes to an hour to get in the city depending on traffic or if i take the metro north train.

Maybe I'll bring my roomate too so you guys can have a chance at the perfecto too...I promise it won't be as easy as it sounds.

Then let's do that, I'd like to move the Harlem tourney back to 9/5, and GDavis can come.   Gantry, you have to understand the New York RBI players, we give each other a hard time, it's how we welcome someone into our community.  You know that New York attitude, it's just like a hazing before acceptance.  We are a close knit bunch.

Looking forward to seeing Ryan Express, I know he will never achieve Denny Walling status because of his inactivity, but he is a big part of the original foursome.

We'll talk invites later, nothing personal GDavis, but we like to have our RBI level high, so if your roomate can come if he's good, but if he is a beginner who gets slaughter ruled some times, it might not be best for this first tourney.  Although I did slaughter rule Ryan Express last tournament, 11 to zilch, so anything is possible.

I'd also like to welcome any other players who are interested, ideally, eight good players would be a perfect fit, but we'll see.  Format will be important Joe, but I'll devise something that you like.  Plus, this lets the drama build, I might be interested in some exhibition ball just for some extra preperation, a friendly as its called in soccer, let me know.

It's all good Bly, if GDavis can handle the smack, then smack away....

exhibition sounds good to me.
i can play a "friendly" this thursday if you'd like.
unfortunately 9/5 tourney doesn't work for ryan express.  work conflict.
the following dates do work for us 9/4, 9/10, 9/12.
what do you think guys?

GDavis threw the 9-5 date out there.  So I'd like to see his response to the other dates.  9-4 seems like it would be good if GDavis can make it into Manhattan.

As for friendlies, let's get it on this Thursday in Harlem world, I have a job intvu in the afternoon but can start drinking after that.

9/4 is a possibility, I'd prefer 9/5 or 9/6 because i'm taking off from work on the 5th and I have an interview on the 6th so I'll definately be in manhattan on the 6th...if its the 6th i'll be showing up to the RBI tournament in a suit.

Everyone should play RBI in a suit--Out of sheer respect for the game

9/5,9/6 don't work unfortunately.  can 9/4 happen?

friendly on thursday sounds good bly_no_no.  is burks in?  harlem or manhattan?

i'll get ryan express in also.

I am severely dissappointed- GDavis has no business surfacing in a tournament with hardcore ballers.  The guy beats up on retarded people and brags about it.

Sounds like someone's afraid of some competetion.  Anyway, 9/4 is a possibility for me, depends on what time you're planning on starting it and how long the tourney would go for.

bly
how about 9/4 6:00

I would say 9/4, whenever GDavis can make it to my crib.  Everyone else can be here by 6:30 I'm sure, so it's really up to him

It'll likely be 7:30-8:00 depending on where in NYC you are.  Are you in Harlem?

I am at west 122nd and broadway.   Depending on if you are driving or how you are getting into the city, it might be really quick.

We can say 7:30, and then whenever you arrive we'll start things up, no big deal.

As for THE PAGADDYS, what a joke, some Masshole guest is gonna logon and hate on the NYC RBI Baseball nucleus??  I don't think so.  We'll let you be Boston and we'll be any team you wish, and you will still get whizzacked.

I don't know exact numbers yet, it might be 5 people, we'll see.

let me know what we need to bring- nes system etc.  do you have 2 tv's?  3 would be da bomb to keep things moving along.

i'd love to see that clown from boston get down here to play some bizzall.

beware:  my game is sharp right now.  i just took ryan express's tigers down in a 3 gamer with san fran.  got to doyle early.

we have at least 5, right?  burks, bly, apple, express, gdavis?

ask burks if he's ready to give back the title.

that's classic.  Yeah we will need you to bring the NES system, we have a great two tv setup, I think that should be plenty, both TVs visible from one seat.

I will buy a bunch of beers, but we will need you to bring the "other" essential that we had at the last tournament.

Burks for Leadoff speaks softly but carries a big bat, he is not ready to trelinquish the title.

Sounds like a plan.  Email me with the specifics.  My email addy is on my profile here.  Sounds like you're walking distance from the 125th street metro north station so i think i'll train it, unless i change my mind between now and then.
