Title: Personal Preferences/Habits
Post by: forsheet on 08/21/02, 05:19:07 PM
Hi!  New to the board... long time RBI player...  I have a few preferences/habits and would like to know what other players do.  I like to throw the ball against the wall when I get an out at first by running towards third and then throwing to first.. it just gets me in a rhythm.  Also, I do like righties better!!!  A lefty is hard as hell to hit when the pitcher is throwing curveballs that hit the outside corner... i just get way back in the box and foul a lot off until i finally hit one.

I also have a habit of throwing the ball at the wall after i make an out.  I like to see how many errors i can get in a game.   I like hitting with righties because when i use a lefty, righty pitchers usually jam me.

It is considered EXTREMELY disrespectful to throw the ball away with less than 3 outs in an inning.  It violates general sportsmanship, and is considered a slap in the face.

I will often throw at the next batter I can if someone does this to me.

I never throw the ball away with people on base just when there is an easy play at first.  Like I said it is to get in "the zone" as they call it.  Another think i do is try to hit a home run with every batter and I hit a ton of hrs this way and when it doesn't work i get a lot of hits anyway so it is a win-win.  Long live the token homer!!!

I never throw the ball away when there is less than 3 outs with runners on base because it is obviously not a good play if u have intentions on winning.  But sometimes it does happen to me because im used to doing it all the time.

Running off the base and throwing it at the wall is a bad habit to get into.  Ryan Express does that to me and once in a while he will forget there are guys on base and throw it against the wall, resulting in a merry go round.

And I agree with Blyleven No No- I consider it disrespectful- like turning 2 with no one on base.

to me,  the "aaron" as we call it is just annoying... i think he is trying to see how many errors he can rack up.

if there's no one on base and you run off the bag and throw it at the wall, do they give you an error?

a bad habit i have is that if i feel like i got squeezed on a pitch (COME ON BLUE!), then i always serveup the next pitch for a bomb.

I also have the habit,  after an out at first, (with no runners on), of moving the first baseman towards homeplate, then throwing the ball to the right field wall, to see if I can hit it. So far it has never happened. But I agree, that these strange idiosyncracies help get you into a defensive rhythym.

of course the rbi people give them an error even if nobody is on base...  just as if you hit a solid single to the outfield and the outfielder bops it...it goes as an error and not a hit.

I am a big fan of throwing the ball off the wall after an out.  I like to rack up the errors and it keeps the rhythm going...

I run to second and throw to first, that's the easiest way to get the BOP.  It has to hit the wall before it counts as an out....

I don't see how it's bad sportsmanship, as it has nothing to do with the offensive player....

you're wrong.  It does not count as an error when you run away from the base and throw it back.

Now what was not mentioned is that you can throw the ball to first base, and then quickly throw it around the horn.  But the ump calls the runner safe as in your first baseman never touched the bag.

It does count as an error if the ball hits the barricade, otherwise it doesn't

the aaron works best when you run towards third and then throw it back towards the box seats...resulting in an error every time.

I also like to throw the ball into the outfield after an out. I mostly do it to end the inning after the third out as a way to say to my opponet, "go get it bitch".

All these habits are dangerous.  You might think there are 2 outs and do it, if runners on base, that is trouble.  I've seen it happen especially in bong hit rbi.

One of my personal favs is to bat from all the way at the back of the box when using Mookie Wilson.  I have dubbed this "Mookie Stance", and he seems to go yard much more frequently from this position.  Also its easier to draw an HBP if a curveball gets away from a pitcher.

i always run towards home and throw it into right field...ive done it for years...i cant really say why i do it at all...its just a habit...not to disrespect, but more my "around the horn"

I got started throwing the ball away by doing it once when i got the third out.  I hit the wall and after the bop noise was made, the inbetween innings music was played and the bop messed up the music at the beginning.  So i try to make that happen every time i get the third out.

You have every player use the Tettleton?????

That works for you??

The Ohio crew (JoeDirt and Mike Riley, his buddy who won the COTUT) do this, and they're really good, so it definitely works.  The theory is that it gives you a bit better bat speed, although I'm not sure how much is real and how much is psychological.  Regardless, if it works...

From our RBI Miscellany Page (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/misc.shtml):

RBI Tendencies

After playing a few games with Lipitz tonight, I realized we do a bunch of really stupid things while playing RBI. While they have no scientifically provable effects, none of us would be the same player without them. Here we go:

   * Must play with a pillow in his lap - Gantry
   * Cannot play with anything in his pockets - Lipitz
   * Cannot play effectively when sitting on the right side - Gantry
   * Verbally insults players to get them out of slumps - Potsie
   * Must pause the game during bathroom/beer breaks to keep his "pitcher fresh" - Lipitz
   * Taps the buttons to make his players run faster - Jason
   * Grunts ala Monica Seles during important ABs - Lips
   * Won't field flyballs with the pitcher because they BOP more - All of us
   * Yells a players nickname in mid-swing to get more power - Potsie

I have the same issue.   :-\

Quote* Must pause the game during bathroom/beer breaks to keep his "pitcher fresh" - Lipitz

Totally stupid, but we (OH) do the same thing. :)

I noticed that Ultimate7 often literally swings or jerks his arms when he's batting.  Like if he's looking for an outside pitch but gets an inside one, he will often swing his arms (and the control) to the "inside" part of the plate while also moving the batter back.

Fun!

I've noticed that JoeDirt likes to cheat by not letting me score enough runs.

I'm not suprised that I over move with the pitch, not sure I was consious of it though.

1) I try stealing on most every pitch.
2) I usually do the Tettleton with everyone.
3) I'll either go to the top of the batter's box, or the bottom if I'm not doing well there.
4) Sometimes I'll move to the side of the box I want the ball to go to ala Ichiro during the pitch.

These are the things that make the game so great.  Here are a few of mine.

1) I try to get as many errors as possible by throwing to the wall after outs at first or third.  Our record around here is 20 now set by me.
2) If i am in a slump i will try to throw across the feild to third before the screen changes.  Only had it get there a couple times.
3) I ALWAYS choose my pitchers and pinch hitters by scrolling through twice before i select them.  Just like the computer.
4) I try to never refer to the players by their real names.
5) I talk a shitload of shit. winning or losing.
6) I will throw the controller an average of 4 times per game.  hitting the TV screen around once per game.
7) I try to sit indian style on the floor like i did when i was 8.
8) I run myself into outs at least 5 times per game.
and there are many more.......

1) beer
2) have to be sitting on the ground - no chairs, couches or cushions
3) the RBI sound has to be on - no music
4) beer
5) cussing is an absolute must
6) throwing the ball in to the wall after an out at first
7) beer
8) must have a snack - popcorn, chips, etc
9) i prefer to win
10) beer

I enjoy playing RBI Baseball while smoking the chronic- anybody else enjoy that???

I used to enjoy any and all video games while smoking the chronic but I gave up on the sticky icky a few years ago.  I now prefer to spend too much money on beer, gain unnecessary weight from beer, and wake up with unnecessary headaches from beer.  Beer is good.

This might explain why you are clinically insane.  That would drive anyone nuts.  As for me...

1.  Errors are key.  I thought everyone threw to the wall after an out at first but I guess not.  The prize is hitting the backstop with the catcher.  It barely ever happens, but when it does, well, let's just say it's exciting.
2. I can't stand still in the batters box.
3. When playing the computer, I always make them throw it to the uncovered base, meaning if I have a guy on 2nd, I'll start running and then go back so they throw to third.  I don't know why I do this since it's a waste of time, but I always do.
4. Also when playing the computer: on an infield bop I'll let the ball sit there until he runs into the out.  I'm guess I'm just a cheater.  I'll also let infield fly balls drop so I can get a faster runner off the base paths.
5. Always play with tunes on.  I don't even have the sound hooked up for my nes right now.
