Final stats will be up tomorrow from season V.
I want to get the draft rolling within 2-3 weeks, so let's all make arrangements and just say yes or no if you are in so I can start making preparations.
Here are the owners and teams from last year who are invited to come back.
The Dark Side - The Galactic Empire
Beefmaster - Unholy Legions of Doom
RePeat- Rebel Alliance (you will be free to change your team name this year)
Mike D/Nacho - Sally Cunts
Ultimate - Fighting Cutlers
TBT - Fighting Artichokes
AlecTrevylan006 - Awesome Badasses
TBG - The OC
Ryno - Pabst Blue Ribbons
Open invitation to join the league:
Gantry/McLane - Poopydicks
Other alternates who may join another owner or may join the league if Gantry/McLane turn down the invitation:
Shooty, BDawk, and GDavis
Sally Cunts! YES (assuming Nacho is still on-board)!
Do I have to keep the same team name?

Do I have to keep the same team name?
You may change your team name. Everybody will be free to do so this season although the league office frowns upon this.
The Legions are once again prepared to choke in the playoffs.
The OC shall rise again!
The Rebels have been biding their time in the cold (in Wisconsin... not Hoth. Hoth is warmer) and are ready for season 6.
The Poopydicks are confirmed. Gantry and McLane have accepted to take the open spot.
They will replace Nomaaa's Chocolate Rain in the DoveRBI Division and will be in the same division with such juggernauts as the Unholy Legions of Doom and the defending FRBI Champion Galactic Empire.
The Poopydicks last participated in the FRBI Season IV and made the playoffs and were swept by the Galactic Empire.
The Galactic Senate has approved of their reinitiation into the league and looks forward to their highly anticipated participation in the prestigious FRBI League which we hope will contribute to attendance figures, tv ratings, and the integrity of the league.
Ever think about using an updated ROM? :)
That would require waaaaay too much research of player attributes. And part of the fun is that we're using the original RBI players, so Andre Dawson will always be awesome and we can make fun of people who take Matt Nokes in the second round.

Ever think about using an updated ROM? :)
You mean like your 2010 ROM? As awesome as it is, the FRBI League adheres to the original ROM with the original players. And the veterans in the league would be against it. We are purists in that sense and I wish to keep the tradition going of the original ROM and players who play in the league.
Also, 10 teams and the 120 players on the original ROM is all I can handle in running a draft and a league. Using a new ROM (like the 2010) would require the creation of a new spreadsheet for all the new players and their attributes. It's just too time consuming and all the past stats from the previous seasons would no longer bear any significance in a historical perspective and for the upcoming draft.
It might be fun. Perhaps I could start one.
No problem, was just a thought. I enjoy watching your progress hroughout the season. .
Keeper league darky! Keeper league! 3-5 players retained. Lets go!

hahaha, NO! That would take all the fun away from the draft. We've been over this. I take it that you are in for this season?
The Artichokes(whoever they may be) are prepared to fight!

Awesome Badasses return!
The Sally Cunts are confirmed. Looking to avenge our loss in the championship.
Sorry about the stats guys, give me another day please. Things did not go as planned.
And this just in....
The Galactic Empire has the LOOK!!!!1111
Ryno is in! Just got the green light via FB. I'm excited for the upcoming season.
any tentative ideas on the start date and time of the draft?
Fighting Urlachers, change initials to FU, thanks

this year, it's all about chemistry and having quality guys on the team. To hell with talent and power. Lenny Dykstra may go in the 1st round this year.

He is fuckin' clutch. The Empire is grateful for his contributions.
Just thinking it would be awesome to hack the ROM and make 140 speed able to steal bases in watch-game mode.
These guys would be base stealers:
Colman
Raines
Lopes
OSmith
EDavis
Dykstr
Hatchr
Gwynn
Burks
McGee
Pettis
Gladdn
Franco
That might make the draft a little more interesting.
and if the cutoff is 134 speed, we'll have 34 (roughly 1/4th) of the batters with the ability to steal in watch mode. This would help some of the bottom-tier power guys have another dimension of importance to the lineup.
Colman
Raines
Lopes
OSmith
EDavis
Dykstr
Hatchr
Gwynn
Burks
McGee
Pettis
Gladdn
Franco
Strwby
Gibson
Tramml
K.Bass
Wilson
J.Cruz
Moltor
Baylor
CDavis
T.Herr
Doran
Puhl
Leonrd
Pucket
Shrdan
Garner
Pndltn
Sntago
Burlsn
Sndbrg
Barret
hmmm, I'll ponder this TBG. I don't think it will happen considering that I am a purest in that sense, but if it were to happen, the players with a power rating of under 800 would get their speed ratings adjusted from a pretend world point of view.
The hack wouldn't be ready for this season, but might be something to consider next time around. All that it would be is a "rule" in the baserunning engine to allow players of whatever speed we set (I say >=140 or >=134) to be eligible for stealing second base. Right now, it's only Colman, Raines, Lopes, and OSmith.
I'm pretty much a purist too, so this wouldn't have anything to do with "juice" or adjusting ratings at all, it's just an adjustment to a rule thereby increasing the importance of the worthless players at the bottom of the heep.
I talked to Tecmoturd via chat (this hack would be a ways a way) and since he and his friend are breaking down the entire ROM, I thought I'd just thrown this out there as we look toward the future. There will be so may options, by next year, i'm guessing, that I'm sure more hacks than this will need to be discussed for next fantasy season. I'm not sure how long everyone will be satisfied with the original if switch hitting and DH and more are available.

To be continued TBG. There is more depth to add to this discussion, but I can't focus right now as I am too busy struggling with the wretched cold I have. You do raise a worthy discussion.
Also, in related news, Marty Barrett! He was a bottom tier player who finished the year 2nd in triples and had some big games for the Empire.
Yeah, a few things need to happen for this to be hacked by me. 1, I need to get that documented code from my guy...2, I need to teach myself 6502 assembly, so don't expect it anytime soon.
I will keep you posted, my friends. In the meantime, good luck with the league, I think it's an awesome thing, and very fun to watch.
how would the hack be so difficult? Admittedly, I don't know much about putting together the fantasy league.
I'm all for jacking the speed. . ...anything to make it more fun / interesting.
Because I don't know 6502 assembly, that's how it's so difficult :) And my pal is already busy documenting code and working better hacks, he can't do it for me.

It's real easy to do in Nightwulf's editor. All that needs to be done is simply change some parameters, save the ROM, and it's all set.
Perhaps I'll can come up with some kind of proposal and the owners can vote on this to make this a reality and then we can iron out the framework. The idea of juicing the speed attributes of some players who have a power rating of under 800 (and with shitty contact ratings) would indeed add an interesting dimension to the draft and league.
any idea on what the bump-up would be?
also, how about a tentative date for the draft?
How about an across-the-board bump? Sims some games to see what happens.
It's going to have an effect. more doubles / triples etc. Offense will be up, that's for sure.
if we're going to juice anything, i think it should be the defense and keep the scores down. the computer defense is the WORST.
more speed, MORE defense.
faster / smarter defenders would be great.
Faster generally takes care of smarter. And this is a hack that's already written...
I disagree with jacking up speeds. Wouldn't mind jacking up stolen base attempts, though.

Agreed with Nacho. That, of course, is the code that we don't know how to change. I'd guess once it's found, it'd be easy to change (I'm sure it just compares the runner's speed to a predetermined cutoff point, which is currently either 145 or 146 - we'd just need to change the cutoff), but we don't know where that lives in the ROM.
The cutoff point is 144, and the only players who can attempt stolen bases are Colman
Lopes, Raines, and OSmith.
I was under the impression that if I juiced Dykstra for instance, from 142 to 144, that he'd automatically attempt to steal second base in watch mode. Am I wrong? Or is this some hack that has to be tampered with in order to make this happen? If this is the case, this discussion is officially over with.
I'm working on the stats right now, it's taking time. Hopefully it'll be done by the end of the dee nee day.
You can't juice one player, you can only edit his speed attribute, making him get on base mote often as well. This would need a custom hack to change the cutoff.

Well, I meant edit his speed attribute to the 144 cut off point. So if his speed attribute was edited up to 146 for example, then he'll just be faster as I understand it and not be able to attempt stolen bases unless a custom hack was done. I get it now. I assumed that he would automatically steal the base due to there being some universal code in the ROM for that threshold point and activator.
I'm going to test this out myself to see if this is empirical.

Confirmed. I just did a test ROM and set the speed attributes for the entire Angels team to 148. Nobody stole any bases after a few test runs.

This surprises me - I assumed that it was simply a comparison of the speed attribute to some cutoff point, not a per-player setting.

if there is some "base stealing" attribute that is turned off or on, then it makes me wonder about the fabled "ground ball" attribute on the old rbi manager editor. although i believe that was addressed in some other thread, i wonder if we really know the whole story.
i guess when jstout gets the whole thing decoded we'll know pretty much everything??
Yeah, well know the answer to any question you can think of regarding the

The "ground ball attribute" is actually half of the power rating. Its value is either 2 or 3, and that number is multiplied by 256 and added to the other half of the power rating.
http://dee-nee.com/rbi/faq.shtml#GROUNDBALL
Yep, that is the whole story. Basicaly when you give this fabled GBA a 2, it was lowering their power by 256, providing the illusion of ground balls due to low power.
If this is in fact what RBIM does, then I'd say it's useless, as it would be mangling what you thought you entered for power.
That is what RBIM does, although it uses a slider for the second byte, so you can't, for example, enter 850 for power and end up with something ridiculous - you just move the slider to roughly the right point. Of course, the slider is also a problem, as even the most powerful guys in the original ROM only have power about halfway up the slider.
Tecmoturd has accepted the vacant spot left open by the Unholy Legions of Doom and the Galactic Senate has approved of his ownership and entry into the prestigious FRBI League.
The rookie owner will be placed in the Dove RBI Division along with the Galactic Empire, the Fighting Artichokes, the Rebel Alliance, and the Poopydicks.
In an interview earlier today, owner and president of baseball operations for the new franchise, TecmoTurd declared that they were down to two names for the new team. The choices are between "The Wheat Farts," and the "Baseketball" inspired "Milwaukee Beers." More to comment later.
Also, the contract between FRBI Board of Directors and TecmoTurd states that there is one condition of acceptance into the league, and that is that other owners will be required to poke fun at Turd's lack of original game knowledge.

You'll need this in case you did not download TBG's updated version of the draft list that he put up in his thread. I'd strongly suggest to download both. Here is the original one.
I'm still finishing up the stats from last season and there is light at the end of the tunnel. I had the stats available throughout the season, but never updated the last three weeks. Plus, some stats I have to go back and manually register since they are only located in the boxscores of the games----like homeruns given up by pitchers. The final boxscore in the game did not register that, so I have to scroll through all the innings and manually do it.
Are any of you solo owners interested in pairing up with somebody? I have somebody who is really interested.

Either at the end of next week, or on the Monday following next week. I'd like to find Barton a home in the league, so hopefully somebody can pick him up.
Maybe I can announce the draft order sometime next week. I'll tape the drawing from a hat and put it up on youtube.
First things first, I really need to finish up the pitching statistics and post the complete stats---homeruns given up, and accurate W-L records as well as K's---that's all that is incomplete right now. I'm on it right now. Those stats are important to examine for the upcoming draft---it is for me at least. The stats from the past leagues can be found by using the search function in this forum. Otherwise I can attach them upon request.
I also have some exotic stats that my software records----player's AVG vs lefty/righty pitchers and some other cool shit. I give good price for that ;)

I ran a 22 game season last year, including the playoffs.
I use a software baseball scorebook to score the games. In case you don't know the lowdown, here it is...
- I record the slate of games for a week on the virtual NES Emulator. Times are always announced to ensure the games' genuine legitimacy
- the file is saved
- the file is attached (WinZip) in the thread for that particular week (week 4 for instance)
- everybody unzips the file and watches the game on their virtual nes, or on youtube if they have an Apple---I also record the games with my camera and put them up on youtube
- I go back and play the games over again on my virtual nes and score the games
- I then recap all the games for a particular week and attach a boxscore
- and stats are always recorded in an excel sheet
It's a lot of work, but it's fun and worth it.
Here is a couple of links to give you a good sense of how the league is run...

Not quite like regular fantasy, where you get credit for players' stats accumulated for their original teams. We create a custom RBI ROM that has our drafted teams, and we pit those teams against each other in watch mode. We use only players from the original RBI Baseball, so a ten-team league will use every player.
When do you guys want to get the draft rolling? Who is not available during work hours? Can we reserve a Saturday to do this? Or should we do it like last year? I think the draft took 8 days last year.
I'm all ears...
I am not available during work hours...
i should be semi-available during work hours. Thurs and Fri are better for me being in front of the computer all day.
I'd be happy to update everyone when their turn is up in the draft, LOLZ
(actually, two or three contact options might not be a bad idea to keep things moving) maybe we can get a list to darky or a couple people to handle notices when necessary??
tecmoturd, when are your work hours? it seems you're always posting?
Haha, yeah...I can post from my phone, or remote into my computer at home, but I don't like doing the latter as it's awfully distracting to my actual job...while I can post, I don't have the time to sit and think about my pick, peruse an excel spreadsheet, etc. Most of the time I'm posting because I'm waiting for my code to compile or something like that...
I get post notifications on my phone, and sometimes I post from there as well...

Is it possible for everybody to reserve a Friday after work hours and a good part of Saturday so we can whip through the draft. I can see a lot of resentment going on during the draft if people have to wait for Turd to get off work to make his picks...happened last year. I think it's not asking too much to reserve a Friday night and a Saturday afternoon to do the draft.

Can't turd just proxy his picks?
I can probably make my picks at lunch, which should make it less waiting for people. As for reserving an evening, I'm at the mercy of my family, so if it's after 10:00 or so, I could do it for sure. If not, it'll be hit or miss.
I'm not forseeing it being a problem, but if it is, I can send a few picks in advance, or generally get a free moment to make my pick that night if I can't make it right away...I don't want to be an impediment to you guys. Though, as you've seen, I usually find a way to post...

Doing a season of regular fantasy might be interesting... leave the teams they are in the original rom and play a season in watch mode and compile the stats and do rotisserie scoring. Could be fun, although having some of the best players stuck on the bench might be a pain. No Armas, Burks, Murphy, etc could be a drag.
Interesting thought though.
To me, it'd make it infinitely more dynamic (and fun) to draft by position. Changes the draft entirely.

this would be a great change to what we've done in the past. as well as having 140-138 guys steal bases.
although, the way a few people have drafted this year, i'm interested in seeing how their teams do. TBT and Re-Peat/Barton in particular.
Running a league by position would be a good change.

I'm pretty sure one of the first Fantasy RBI seasons used specific positions, rather than just IF/OF.

That would have HAD to have been the first one. I was involved in the second one and that's when i compiled all the individual positions on the spreadsheet. if memory serves correctly. so i doubt it's ever been done.
There was one that was run in the online forum, that maybe GDavis won, run by Clambutt. Not sure if it was by position or not.

Season II draft thread (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?topic=1210.0) - specific positions are maintained. I also found a Season I game recap that mentioned that Tony Armas had a pinch-hit homer - that would not happen unless we enforced positions to the point that bench players had to stay on the bench (which I'm not a big fan of).
i thought the second season was fighton's first? so i wonder if our fantasy season numbering has been off all along?? isn't dvldog clambutt? is his player positioning the same as from my spreadsheet? (some arguments can be made about guerrero and kruk, maybe a couple others).

I think that was actually Season III - there were two five-team seasons, one run by GDavis (dvldog beat me in the World Series, and participants shared simulation duties) and one run by dvldog (he simulated every game).
