So it's been a while since I last posted, but I've been giving a lot of thought to some things.
As it is not just in baseball, but in all of sports, certain players have specific matchups with other players. Given much due respect to Nightwulf's impeccable research, are there really any specific hitter to pitcher matchups in where the hitters have a major advantage over the pitchers?
For example, I've noticed in the last few games:
Jack Clark absolutely owns Roger Clemens...in 6 AB's, three were bombs, 1 a granny.
Lee Mazzilli is clutch against Bert Blyleven...hit a pinch hit grand slam in the bottom of the 4th.
Wally Joyner serves it up high to Mike Scott...first AB with Joyner (Scott subbed for Ryan) and Joyner crushed a 6-drinker.
Is this just pure contact and luck? Or are there similar stories out there where certain hitters drive stakes of fear into the opposing players' pitching staff? 8)
jack clark should not be pitched to. The other stuff is by chance.
Joyner is money.
