Hi All.
Long time RBI Baseball player, first time poster. Actually just stumbled across this site by accident and I can't believe there so much info on the game...which I freely admit is my all time favourite.
Anyway, I have been playing the original NES grey cartridge for 15+ years and recently got the Atari arcade version to play in the confines of my basement.
Since I haven't really figured out how to navigate through this forum yet, just checking to see if anyone can direct me to posts regarding the following stuff:
1) Most runs scored in a game against the CPU (my personal record was in the mid 40's)
2) Any similar expreices realted to the following glitches:
i) Pausing the game at the right time to get the pitcher to stand like 10 feet from home plate (common and esasy to replicate I imagine)
ii) hitting a monster home run that immediately after its hit, the "camera" goes bak to the infield while your guy runs the bases and the game won't progress after that point and you sit and watch the crowd cheer ad infinitum. This only happened once in my 1,000+ games so I would really like to find out more about this.
That's about it for now. I will spend the remainder of my work day scouring the old posts.
P.S. Great site
Welcome to the forums! Your first glitch question has an answer on the site: On this page (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/glossary.shtml#GLITCH), check out the "Mini-Pitcher Glitch". There's video footage as well.
As for glitch #2, I've never seen that. Maybe someone more well-versed in RBI can help you out there...
I've never seen that glitch either and I've never scored anywhere near 40 runs against the computer, I guess maybe if I kept letting CPU score every inning to keep within 10, maybe ?
I've seen the second one happen once. I've asked about it on here and as far as i know, no one else has had it happen before. Mine happened when a friend hit a blast off of me with Armas to deep left over the lights. It made the sound you get from and error and then the screen shifted down to near the SS and the ball was never actually called a home run but Armas came all the way around and scored. Is this similar to what you had?
Baines...thats sounds exactly like what happened to me. And I'm pretty sure it was Armas as well (either that or Jim Rice...I know it was a Red Sox player). I'd like to take credit for it, but my buddy Todd actually hit it. It was definitely one of the hardest hit balls I witnessed and it went deep left as well. However, I cannot recall if it was directly over the foul pole or not. It was hard enough that it went completely off the screen and then the scenario you described occured.
As for the 40+ runs in a game...you are correct...you have to let the computer score every inning so you don't go over the 10 run mercy. I just wanted to see how many runs I could rack up. Unfortunately, this strategy doesn't work nearly as well on the arcade version as the game automatically ends at +10.
Another topic that I'd like to find out about is the running strategy against the computer where you have runners on first and second and through well timed advancing and retreating of your runners you get the CPU to throw the ball away and get an extra base or two per runner. I'm sure this is a common strategy, but is it frowned upon in the RBI Baseball inner sanctum.
On an unrelated note, I always wondered how they could have 2 Blue Jay pitchers on the AL team and not have one of them be Dave Stieb.

I agree...this is a very common and well known phenomenom, but I heavily discourage people to use it. It is cheap and ill-advised for any true RBI-er to take part in this practice. It's pure fuckin' BUSCH LEAGUE.
Welcome to the forums and I fuckin' love your signature. ;)
Wow, you learn something new everyday... I actually don't know about this strategy to purposely get the CPU to throw the ball away with runners on first and second. I don't play much computer, but should know about this regardless. To save me the sheer boredom of playing the computer, can you give a little more detail on how to make this happen?
Welcome to the fourms Shooty!
Regarding the Deep Homer Glitch, I am confused about the final result. Baines said he was able to run all the bases and get a pseudo inside the parker while Shooty said the game doesn't progress. Which one is it?

This is a pain in the ass to do. It's much easier to just swing away with your next batters and drive those fuckers in.
Shooty welcome and heed my 2 words of advice.
1) Purchase cheap bourbon and some hellacious mixer if you are forced to play rbi alone.
2) Eat my dong tyrone o' chong.
That is all.

Oh and one other thing. Since I love to start trouble - where exactly do you stand on the issue of pitcher home runs?

The runner crossed the plate...not sure whether the run counted or not as it was 12-15 years ago...but the game never progressed...it just kept on focusing on the idiotic cheering fans and that was it...We had to start a new game.
AS for the running strategy. You have runners on 1B and 2B. Get your guy on first to run to 2nd...and get the second baseman to chase him back to 1B. Get your lead runner to go to 3B and the second baseman will throw the ball there. Have your lead runner retreat back to 2B and have your other runner head towards 2B again. Once the lead runner is standing on 2B, The third baseman will thow there to get the other runner. Since the secondbaseman is not onthe bag, the ball goes into the outfield. Voila.
Never had a pitcher homerun...Not even a wallsie...although Ryan has shown some pop from time to time.
Haven't played a non-Computer match-up for over a decade. I'm in Canada so the NHL series has prevailed as the game of choice since 1993. Although I've played the computer so much, its like a friend...just not a terribly bright friend...kind of like Rain Man without the math skills.
I think that baserunning move (one I often employed as a young, ruthless RBI player) falls into the same category as throwing the ball behind home plate once you have positioned your pitcher back there... you let the ball hit the wall, and the computer gets the bright idea that it's a free-for-all on the basepaths, sending everyone... then you can easily just pick it up with your pitcher and gun them down at the plate... again both moves should really be unnecessary against the harmless computer, but it is kinda funny to find loopholes in the "AI" of this game..
Thanks for the baserunning tip, hard to belive I never knew about it. I have used the one to throw the ball away and nab the stupid AI when he tries to get another base though...
How about you Baines, when you glitch happened did the game continue on?
Yeah, the game continued just as if it was an in-the-park homerun. He stayed at first for a minute because we didn't know what the hell was going on but it wasn't going back to the pitcher/batter screen and I guess considered it a ball in play even though it was outside the stadium. He came around and scored and the game just went on.

Another classic way to screw the CPU is where you stand by any single to left and wait for the runner to round 2B and shoot him at third. The CPU never will go back to 2B on a ball in the outfield.
Also if you have a guy on 2nd and you hit the ball off the wall you can wait until the fielder picks up the ball to score drawing the throw home, so that the other runner can coast into 3rd.
If you're trying to rack up runs, you also have the strategy of having a runner on 3rd then bunting with the next two guys. The computer will always throw home to prevent the run while your other guys are left alone to roam the bases.
On another glitch related note, while playing the CPU, if you have a runner on 2B, and there's a pop up to the SS, every so often you can tag up and run to 3B without ever drawing a throw...only after you round third does the guy wake up and throw home. Does this glitch have a name yet?

A couple more classics. Always good to pull out against the CPU.
Those moves are staples in my vs CPU repertoire. I can't imagine playing any other way.
Just figured I would post an image of a recent mini-pitcher, pitching all the way back from 2nd base...

Mini-pitcher???? He looks like a fucking giant.
Quality pic. The pitcher on 2B is a new one to me.
