Welcome punkska...

The first thing you should do is buy every Dillinger Four and Naked Raygun CD.   After that, give FCE Ultra a whirl, it works a bit better for RBI and should work with your controller:

- Like Gantry suggested, try another emulator. Nesticle hasn't been updated since like the 1940's.

- Buy any cheap ten-dollar sound card (with a MDI port) and use your old controller.

by "old controller," do you mean the NES controller?

I was referring to "my serial controller," though evidently it's easy enough to use an NES controller on a parallel port.

WOW!!
Thanks for all the quick replies.

I can't believe there are people that still remember RBI much less a forum where it is discussed.  Needless to say, I'll be checking in from time to time now.

I tried FCE Ultra, it recognized the buttons on my controller but not the d-pad.  Oh well, i'll try some other emulators or just get a crappy sound card.

Gantry -- I like Dillinger Four so i'll check out Naked Raygun and get back to you.

Thanks again,
rob

Rob:

No problem, and welcome!  FCEUltra uses DirectX so if that USB controller works with other directX games (which is what 95% of Windows games use nowadays, correct me if I'm wrong on that nightwulf) then it's probably a small config change to get working.  You can also try Nester/NesterJ as well, that's a good emu...

And Naked Raygun is the bomb, best Chicago punk band ever.  Get All Rise or Throb Throb if you can find it...

Have any of you chicago guys heard of 7000 Dying Rats? They were one fantastic band.

Never heard of them, the only Chicago punk bands I'm very familiar with are Screeching Weasel and Sludgeworth, of course I've also listened to a little Naked Raygun, I've got some compilation album.

I guess they're defined as "grindcore." They played at the Fireside Bowl a number of times. I think someone in the  band managed shows their or something. They're pretty much a joke, but I always found it amusing. At times, the music was actually pretty good.

Yeah, DirectInput (which is a component of DirectX) provides a standardized method for applications to use controllers. Any controller with DirectInput-compliant drivers (pretty much anything) should work correctly with any DirectX-compliant software. The last update to Nesticle95 I had lying around was updated on 08/21/1997, so I'm not surprised it lacks support. :P

I second Nester, as well as FCEU.

I ended up getting virtualnes or something like that.  It works great.

It's been tons of fun playing all the old nes games despite the crazy looks i get from my girlfriend.

Gantry -- i found a place on epitonic.com that has a few streaming NR songs.  Walk In Cold, Coldbringer, Home of the Brave, Metastasis.
You were right, they DO rock!
Have you or anyone ever heard of The Lillington's?  They were from somewhere in Wyoming i think.  They were pretty good.
