Title: RBI League or Tourney
Post by: Turd on 04/26/10, 03:23:43 PM
I think it's time to see what kind of interest we can gather for a league or tourney. This thread is dedicated to the discussion of said competition. I'd like to see it make it's way through a full season, so only people serious about doing something like this should apply. These things die too quick without a dedicated owner base.  Discuss.

Sad that noone cares. Man, if ya can't get it done on the most noteworthy RBI site around, it probably can't be done.

Cool, if we get enough interest to get a tourney going or something more, I'm imposing a rule that you have to be verified (able to host a game vs. me) before you can play. Of course, I'm happy to get anyone setup with that, and Bastardo, you should be easy considering your close proximity to my place of residence and employment.

I really only want people in this who are gonna play their games. The last tourney died because it was basically a contest between myself and Attezz.

I can probably get Joe from the dee-nee fest to play.

I'll buy the controller on the way home from work and mess with it after the child goes to bed, around 8 pm tonight.

Well considering I already have wild racoons living in my chimney, I think I'll just stick with that for now.

Is wild racoons a whiskey?

Nope, it's actually wild racoons.

I'm giving them the Gitmo treatment, hoping they get the fuck out.

But, like, Wild Turkey is a bourbon, so I figured wild racoons was a whiskey.

60 minutes until operation racoon assault.

If mama is up there, retreating...

If just the babies are up there, eradicating...

If they left last night, celebrating...

TBH, what do you mean pool play. Do you mean round robin? That's what we did for Attezz vs. Turd.

So if it's just you, Attez and myself... year one of online fantasy RBI league, that's fine... we can still play like an unbalanced 20 game sked so that future seasons with more teams can retain such a schedule.

I don't care how many guys we have for a league as long as we actually play the games. 4 would be nice.

How much is there more to the setup process? I have the emulator downloaded and the rom.

Turd - are you watching the Bucks game tonight? Maybe we can plan to hop online for an RBI game at half time or something.

Bastardo, missed ya on Friday. I texted you, hope I got your number right...

I started messing around with numbers to see how you could apply a salary cap system to it.  I was thinking at least for batters...you assign it based on power (power = cost, so a 900 power guy costs $900).  With a $9550 salary cap, a team like the following would be possible...

No   Player   Power
1   Player X   900
2   Player X   825
3   Player X   825
4   Player X   800
5   Player X   800
6   Player X   780
7   Player X   742
8   Player X   765
9   Player X   780
10   Player X   785
11   Player X   775
12   Player X   770

Or you could opt to not get the 900 guy and spread it over your bench or remaining lineup if you saw fit.  Might make for some cool strategies...perhaps some system where your cap is based on your previous record...so shittier players get a chance to compete...

I was bored at lunch. That's what I did.

This is good, otherwise we could just go with the real life salaries of guys as well and have a payroll limit of $58,000,000 or something like that.

Yes. I like that too. Although that would mean having to code their salaries into my draft module. Otherwise, kind of a cool idea.

real life salaries don't really reflect the player's ability in RBI.  tom brookens is one example.  galarraga, who played well into the 2000's, would be horribly overpaid in "salary cap" rbi since he is so bad by comparison in the game.

Pretty sure we'd use updated rosters, but you still have a point. It's easier to just assign it based on attributes. Well see.

Yah I was thinking we'd go with updated roster pool and could apply the current salaries.

However if it's easier for Turd to make things clean and easy to keep track of let's go with power. Will there be a large enough difference?

Cool...got the draft module setup with the salary stuff...let me know what night works best for ya...maybe Wed or Thurs. for me...
