QuoteKRIV-TV, citing unnamed sources, reported Williams has been dismissed and replaced on an interim basis by Phil Garner, former manager of the Milwaukee Brewers and Detroit Tigers and a former Astros player.
The station also reported Astros hitting coach Harry Spilman and pitching coach Burt Hooton were expected to be relieved of their duties Wednesday and replaced by Gary Gaetti and Jim Hickey, respectively.
How can you fire Harry Spilman, a travesty!
At least this is +1 for RBI'ers - out with one, in with two...
I don't have any stats in front of me, but I think it's safe to assume that the Stros were leading the league in pinch hit HRs under Spilman's tutelage.
garner was interviewed on Jim Rome's radio show this morning (second hour). you might be able to hear it at his website: jimrome.com
