Title: Slurve pitching????
Post by: Ben on 07/15/04, 04:14:59 PM
Sorry i have not been on the site in a long time.  Signed up as a member.  Read a few of the posts and see that you are throwing the slurves now.  It is just a totally different game is it not?  It makes teams like the cardinals a contender.

This is really a question for McClane/Chubbs as I think they are really the only one here that plays SLURVE style.  Just to clarify many at this site play Straight Pitch and many play anything goes Curve.  Slurve is apparently a mixture in which Curving is allowed, but pitches have to be in the strike zone.

I've never called it slurve. But our rules are every pitch must be over the plate.
It's a good game.

yeah it might be what they call their curve/strike style. we call it slurve cause my buddy that is 6 foot 6 throws this crazy ass curve in wiffleball that we call the slurve.... aka the Schroeder Curve.  But on RBi we play anything goes for 1 thru 8 but you have to pitch it right down the cock to the pitcher.  it makes it a little bit more tight...

p.s.  I do not think there is anything worse than having Santana as your level.  I am going to have to get serious with these posts.

Keep on posting my good man...  More RBI posts too, the Anything Goes board is starting to take over...

Slurve is the name I gave it recently, because as Ultimate said, most play curve or straight pitch.  We in Phoenix kinda combine them.
As BDawk mentioned, everything has to be a strike.  The ball can curve as much as you want, it just has to end up being a strike.
Any pitch thrown that is not a strike is followed with a straight pitch right down the middle.
Yes, the Cardinals do become a contender.  For the most part, the big power teams will always win, but the small ball teams at least stand a chance.
There is quite a premium put on pitching.  One wouldn't think so since all pitches need to be strikes, but there is definitely a technique involved.  2-1, 3-2, etc games are not uncommon.

Are intentional balls allowed?  Meaning can you risk the down the middle pitch to Evans and just throw it way off the plate?

Gantry, do you mean an intentional walk?  If so, we just yell out "plunk!" and bean the fucker on the first pitch.

No, I mean is it frowned upon to intentionally throw a ball in slurve

Frowned upon?  It's a cardinal sin and is met with a severe beating, followed up by chugging an entire beer.

That's hilarious...Riley and I have always had a "plunk 'em" rule where if it's called, the batter gets plunked on the 1st pitch.   :D

I'm sure as hell not gonna waste four balls when I can just hit a dude in the kidney.  It's far more fun.

Ben raises a good point, it's miserable to be associated with Santana. What does it take to get past this level and then who are we? Pedrique?

I belive it's 51 posts and then you hit Denny Walling level.   Or is it Mookie Wilson?

It's Dan Gladden, then at 100 Denny Walling.

It looks like I'll have to be posting many times a day for months to earn a little respect in this forum.

I think with a solid influx of newbies we can put RBI back at the top.

Yes, but will we just be covering the same topics over and over?

Pretty much.  I think you hit the nail on the head for the demise of the RBI forum.

In response to the beanball talk, does anyone else hate that noise made while your batter doubles over?? it's not bad enough to have your poor guy drilled, but you gotta hear that heinous sound... truly insult to injury

So, someone give me something new to do with RBI. Nothing involving the words "contact" or "pitcher unknown" please. I still have a few years to live.

Back in late 80s when the game stood proudly in the main arcade area, we just called it "the back-door slider" Buckey Walters was and is STILL THE BEST!!! In on the fists and "Y'er Out!"
