In researching past results at the COTUT, I see that some people like to choose StL vs. Boston, the theory being that Tudor can shut down Boston's powerful R-handed lineup.
I am curious about what other sneaky good matchups are out there.
For example I love Houston against StL. Tons of LH hitters on Houston negate Tudor somewhat (still need to get into that bullpen). Plus Houston actually has a little more team speed than the Cards. And even better pitching.
Who is the best matchup vs. Detroit?
I guess Boston or CA are the obvious plays.
in 2007(?) there was a guy who used STL vs BOS exclusively. As a matter of fact that guy back home had a friend who was ALWAYS Boston, so he countered with the best lefty in the game(tudor). We thought he was crazy, but he was legit with STL vs BOS.
This would be suicide for most, but considering that guy played a ton of STL-Bos games, he held his own with the best players ever using a far inferior team.
Don't try it. this guy was in a whole different league with Tudor. Also once the STL-BOS game was concluded he really struggled in the other match-ups.
During cotut style selection, some guys would try and defeat Bos with Cal, if they knew they could get a DET/SF match up next. They'd go for the upset with Cal, and then the sheer power advantage DET has over SF. That's one strategy to employ.
