Title: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/08/10, 12:58:02 PM
Alright, this will be the official thread for all things related to a new RBI league (curve style) I'd like to start.  I want this to happen, the website is ready for it to happen, this is not a post-and-forget thread like the 2010 Fantasy RBI thread was.  I wanted to get some of the new hacks in place before starting this league, but it looks like that's not going to happen.

First things first, I need to know who's interested.  I want guys with at least 3 games in the RPC. This will accomplish a number of things...one, it'll weed out people who aren't serious about playing, it'll ensure that people know how to upload their stats and that they are actually setup to play.

If you don't have 3 games in, then you need to have a proven track record or have some sort of case you can present that will make me believe you'll actually play your games and are setup to play.  I'd be happy if you just IM'd me and we can discuss that further and I can help you get setup.

I also want to make sure you have a decent connection so that gameplay stays solid.

Time investment on this doesn't have to take over your life...depending on interested parties, we'll play a home and away series vs. each team or something like that...nothing crazy...

Please respond to this post with your interest in playing, as well as your preferred team (this doesn't mean you get that team's players, it just means that's the team you'll be playing with. You'll run through a draft to build your team. First come, first served.

Items for discussion:
1987 Rosters, 2010 Rosters
Two leagues (divisions) based on talent
Include all players available for draft and utilize a salary cap to keep teams from being stacked, or do we limit the player pool to only the number of teams that we have chosen by players in the league

Confirmed to host
Turd - Brewers
Kahouty - Athletics
Dirty - Mets
James23 - Rays
TheCongo - Braves
SuckerPunch - Rockies
Bastardo - Mariners
scrambledeggs728 - Reds
GoNickMontana5 - Nationals
Kulseic - Pirates

I don't have 3 games in, but not for lack of trying. I am much more consistant owner than in the past. I would welcome a chance to join league. My RBI skills are beginner at best (still fall for the curve waaaay to much) so please place me accordingly. I would like to be the PIRATES if poss. Thanx, Jim

One point of note, you'll be required to be able to host (either with hamachi or by setting up your router).  I'll just need to verify that with each of you before we make your "membership" official.

Also, AIM is going to be required so that people can find you to setup a time to play your games...

Turd - I have the controller now and all the capabilities to host.

I would like the Mariners! :)

I like the idea of using 2010 players and a salary cap... perhaps with each team that the user has picked getting that teams franchise player... like Turd would start with Braun on his team, I'd start with Ichiro... etc... then we draft the rest of the players or something.

Just a thought, let me know, I'll be out of town this weekend but then back in buisness after that with baby #2 coming I'll have time to do nothing but sit inside.

Bastardo, you're all setup to host? That's freakin' awesome, who set you up?  Do you have IM? That's helpful to people finding opponents...

I'm debating at least for season one to just have the players availbe from the teams chosen and move into a salary cap style next season.  Keep it simple...I like your idea of getting the team's franchise player...

Hit me up and we'll chat some more...

I have Yahoo Messenger but I can get AIM if that is what everybody uses...

What about VoiceChat do we have that capability yet anywhere?

And I should say that I think I've set myself up to host, not positive :) :) :)

AIM is the standard...if you don't want to install it, you can use this:
http://products.aim.com/products/express

Anyways, hit me up tonight or tomorrow (I'm taking a night or two off in the upcoming days to just sit).  But, hit me up and we'll make sure you can setup...

I think for now we'll cap the signups at 8 to keep it simple. Expansion is an option afterwards...once I verify that everyone is good to go for hosting, I'll setup the site and we can draw numbers to find out where we draft, get a schedule going, and hop to this thing...

Oops, looks like I'm late to the game, but I'd like to be on the expansion list. I'm an RBI beginner and haven't played any RPC games yet but I'm a dedicated owner and love RBI baseball!
Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/10/10, 09:21:32 AM
I didn't want to have 10 teams right off the bat because the more owners you have, the more leagues are prone to failure.

That being said, I don't want to turn away interested players...so let me confirm that everyone on the list is able to host either directly or with hamachi.  If so, we'll expand to 10. If not, you guys can replace the ones that can't.  I think most of ya'll can host, so it shouldn't be an issue.

GoNick, who's your team choice?

Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/10/10, 10:02:16 AM
Most of them are guys who play in the RPC...we're gonna use the online section of this board for our official discussion, so after the league starts, it'll be out of everyone's way.

I know it's been done before, and failed many times over.  If it does fail, at least I tried.  Out of all the old league posts and websites I've read, I feel like I'm the most ambitious of the bunch in a long time.  I'm doing my best to get guys who I know are active and play their games...with a few question marks, but that can all be worked out.  If it doesn't work, then it's never gonna work with this crowd.  Tecmo has proven to work in league format, just need the right people.  This is my last ditch effort to make it happen.

Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/10/10, 12:48:43 PM
Website is setup, draft players have been imported.  As long as I can get everyone verified to be able to host, I'd say we could start the draft next week.  The draft will be fully automated on the league website, snake style, randomly drawing the order.

Two divisions, Tengen and Namco...owners will be placed into divisions based on perceived skill level.

Regular season:
8 Division Games (one home and one away vs each of your division opponents)
4 Interleague games

Post-season:
top 3 from each division make playoffs, top seeds get byes
3 game series for playoffs, a 5 game series for the world series

Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League

Few more players to verify hosting and confirm that all owners going to commit to 1-2 games a week. If anyone wants to opt out at that time, we'll give the spot to an alternate.

I'll do a random draw in a chatroom or something for draft position, and we'll get the draft going...and then release the schedule and divisions once the draft has started...

for ratings, I've tweaked the ratings a bit to try and reflect this season so that it was a little more updated. I'll post the league website link in a day or two as well.

The draft is a snake style draft done on the website. You'll basically pick your guy right on the site and it'll advance to the next draft slot. This will happen until all the teams are filled.

I'll have the rules and whatnot posted after we get the last two confirmed for hosting. I'll send the league an email with details soon. Any more questions? Let me know.

You can fire away on a logo for it.

Good idea...clarification though, this award will likely go to every manager in the league because it's highly unlikely that anyone throws a no-hitter. Remember, stats for this league are tracked by team only...we don't have the ability to track by individual players.

Mis-draft...

I call for a re-draft!
Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/18/10, 02:21:25 PM
Well, I found the problem.  For some reason, I had three guys labeled as DH and not B (for bench), so they weren't showing up as available players in the draft.  That means that the last three picks can't be made because we'll be 3 available guys short.

Position,FieldPosition,Name,Bats,Average,HR,Contact,Power,Speed
DH,Cust,1,240,25,26,866,122,20
DH,Grffey,1,214,19,30,832,120,25
DH,Burrel,0,221,14,29,804,122,27

I don't think we can enter these guys in the draft because it would be unfair to people who wanted to draft them before...perhaps we'll just give the last three picks a guy with stats equal to the worst available batter in the draft pool.

Dammit.

Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/22/10, 12:45:30 PM
I did text you that you were up, but since you didn't make your time, I auto'd you...the rule was that in these later rounds, you'd get the guy with the most power available, and then the highest curve pitcher if your batters were full.  Your next picks would be at 5:30 today...

Should be done with round 9 with your picks.  Then we should be able to fly through rounds 10-16 and get preseason going...

Problem with the auto'd situation is now I have two LF's... how's that gonna work position wise?

I don't mind the auto at all, just that I cant make a lineup.
Title: Re: The RBI Baseball League
Post by: Turd on 06/22/10, 01:23:56 PM
The rules state any player can play any position...you don't need to draft by position!  In fact, if that were the case, the site wouldn't allow it, but I have that turned off.

From the rules (www.rbibaseball.us/league/rules.php)
"For this season, your batters can play any non-pitching fielding position."

If you could pick tonight, that would be great.  That way I could pick in the morning before I go to work rather than the autopick.
Thanks,
Jackandjose

I just texted him so he knows he's up. He had some power outages that should be resolved. I hope he picks too. It'd be nice to fly through thee last picks.

Thanks!  There is no reason why we can't get through a round  in the evenings.

Turd-With the 72nd pick I took Marqui.  It now shows me with Prado and Marqui is available again.  I guess it's no big deal.

I'm not sure how that happened. If that really is the case, I'll fix it on your honor, but the site has been spot on with all the other picks. Unless I screwed it up when fixing some of the data a few rounds back.

Don't worry about it.   I don't mind keeping Prado, maybe I hit the wrong button.  I was more worried that someone else might have drafted him.

ok.  If he makes his second pick soon, I should be able to pick this morning.  Pick a reliever for me this afternoon.  Thanks!
