Title: Pitcher bunt home runs
Post by: JerryD on 07/26/04, 02:16:55 AM
This is one of my favorite things to have against the computer.  This usually happens with no one on, and about once every four or five games.

What happens is you either bunt or hit a weak hit with the pitcher (or, concievably, any batter).  The ball will about as fast as a fielder, and the pitcher will just miss it.  Then, the pitcher will chase after it while you're free to run the bases, even with your slow pitcher.  By the time an outfielder is closer to the ball and starts to chase after it, your runner is coming home to score.

Has this happened to anyone yet?

(BTW, I came here after reading The Sports Guy and clicking on the Pedriq page.  You guys kick ass. :))

Happens all the time....usually I'm like at 2 outs and im like bunting just to end the inning and i'll score a freakin run......it's pretty funny

They fixed this in later version of RBI and Family Stadium

This happens all the time... Actually, if you do a three-quarters bunt (one position past a normal bunt), you can get it to happen a lot. I used to do that on purpose whenever the pitcher was up, and just watch all the computer fielders run right past the ball until it rolled to the wall. Awesome.

I successfully executed this a few times this weekend. Pretty cool. However, some pitchers are better hitters than others, and sometimes a you've got a better shot at getting a regular (swinging hit) than with the bunt. But I'm with you, a cool tactic to try to get back in a game vs. the computer.

QuoteHowever, some pitchers are better hitters than others

This is a myth.  People (and by "people", I mean "nightwulf") have checked the actual data being used by the game as it plays, and all pitchers have the same hitting abilities, unless you're using a ROM modified with nightwulf's editor to add individual pitchers' abilities.
