Thanks to nightwulf, we now have chat ability on dee-nee.com! Pretty much all you have to do is click on the new "chat" button at the top. It will open up a java applet where you can shoot the shit with fellow members in real time. Say yes when it asks you to install the applet and away you go. Give it a whirl!
First evening of chat and it's gone very well. Tons of members stopped by and a great way to shoot the shit. Any of you guys have questions/comments, be sure and post them. It opens up as a java applet in a new web browser, so it's pretty easy to hide at work...
We (err nightwulf) will be adding a feature to the front page where you can see how many people are actually in chat before you dive in...
Also can give instructions to those who prefer to use an IRC client, pretty darn flexible...

It won't work for me for some reason ??? I loaded the applet, but it always says it's having trouble with the connection and makes me wait., but never lets me in
edfan - What browser are you using? Do you have java installed?
supposedly it was installed when I first tried to pop into chat. my computer never does what I want it to do, so this is par for the course (probably due to my own ignorance)

OK, the chat doesn't seem to be working for me now, either. It appears that it's not even trying to load Java - all I get is an empty white box. This is odd, since chat was been working fine for me before.

Whenever I'm at school and actually using a computer that can support chat (unlike the piece of crap I have at home,) I get in the chatroom but you bitches must think I have the plague. A lot of the posting we do on Anything Goes would be perfect for chat...

Most pple are at work and can't use the chat or their computers don't allow it or the network doesn't. There always someone behind the scenes looking out for pple like us chatting. The internet security, fuckers. Thank god i don't have that. So i can look at all the porn i want to at work.

Yo, the reason it's not working is because it never says who's in the chatroom. I'm in the chatroom right now but on the front page it says the room is empty.

This is also happening to me, says it's empty even when I'm in it, even after refreshing the page.

lol. i couldn't pass that one up. i'm in a college lab that has java applications blocked, so i'm not able to get in on the chat.
I think that when I go into Dee-nee chat, my computer has a problem shutting down. This only happens when I go into the chat. I close all programs before I shut down. I stopped going into chat and this problem went away. I am running XP with everything updated. Any reason for this?
maybe the java program? i had the same problem with my computer before she died.
I sthere a new version of Java. I replaced my hard drive a couple of months ago, so I doubt its the computer. Haven't had a problem since I stopped using chat I am going to use chat now and then try to shut down and see what happens.
OK, I found a virus connected to my java program. I deleted it. Yesterday I went into chat and i was able to shutdown no problem.

Understatement of the year, it really sucks chatting by yourself.
can't get in chat, I looked at Nightwulf suggestions, even went to Java's page and it says I can't install it for whatever reason, my CPU is less then a year old and there are no available updates as of right now. I refuse to go through IRC because it will make my head explode. It seems to me there has got to be an easier way of making this happen.
I have no idea what I did but it now works, figures everybody has now left.
have you considered using visichat? or is the chat software we have the only one supported by smf?
I bought the one we use because at the time it integrated nicely with SMF and cost a grand total of five bucks. Over time it's become horribly insecure and unsupported.
I've looked at a couple other options and will probably find something else to use "soon." SMF 2.0 is still relatively new so as people update packages for the new software more options will come available. There's one or two I like, and another one or two that need to be updated for 2.0 (which I could tackle if things take too long).
I'm open to suggestions. Integration with SMF is pretty important as both Gantry and I would like to avoid making changes to the forum software by hand (since it breaks with every software update).
Edit: have you seen Visichat's pricing (http://www.gchats.com/products/24_visichat.html)? Think I'm done considering.
