Recently announced Gary Carter has the brain cancer. Discuss.
Bummer
They don't know that it's brain cancer - just that it's small tumors that may or may not be malignant. Let's stick to the facts, guy.

Go sleep on a toilet, I said he's got cancer.
Whoa Nellie!
FACT: I've never slept on a toilet. Near one - sure. But never on one.
FACT: I said they don't know if it's cancer or not. How hard is that to figure out (http://adastrum.kansascity.com/?q=node/1175)?
FACT: Shut up.
Either way I'd say he's a solid pick in the 2012 dead pool
Fighton has probably already taken him in the Dead Pool Minor League Draft
I thought this was about Dan Shaunessey

So they can't do surgery on Gary Carter's tumors and it sounds pretty much like a death sentence. For some reason, this really bums me out.

Actually, it might be because my uncle was just diagnosed with a fast-growing tumor in his brain - it's not cancerous, but they can't remove it surgically, and eventually it's going to grow large enough to kill him. Sucks all around.

Unfortunately I had no recollection of this thread during the last 2 weeks of December
He's not dead yet, I should have picked him for 2012 dead pool.
Gary Carter's sick, I can't believe I didn't take him in the death pool.
I assumed this thread was about Don Sutton.
Gary Carter is dead at 57.

pretty cool tribute song.
Is he gonna go to heaven as a Met or an Expo?
I don't think any Mets are allowed in heaven

As a Cub fan, I approve of this message.
why?
On the weekend, all of the Montreal Canadiens took to the pre-game skate wearing CARTER #8 on the back of their jerseys. Very cool.

I never realized how big he was in Canada until last week. I was listening to NHL radio and the host was saying he was the big athlete in Canada when Gretzky came around. Most kids favorite baseball player was Carter
...after Terry Puhl
naturally

He was definitely he first baseball "star" north of the border. And before Gretz hit the scene, Cater probably was the most popular athelte for a couple of years. Bobby Orr had just retired and Gordie Howe and Bobby Hull were old and playing in the WHA. And Rusty Staub...probably the mst popular Expo of all time was playing with the Tigers or someone else at the time. And the Blue Jays were just starting out and didn't have any really good players to speak of.
I know I had a Gary Carter jersey when I was younger. He was the best. The best.
How popular are Joe Carter and John Olerud in Canada?
Pat Hentgen?
I can only speak about Ontario.
Joe Carter is still very popular. Olerud and Hentgen not as much.
I would say the 10 most popular Blue jays would be:
Stieb
Carter
Alomar
Halladay
Gruber
Fernandez
Moseby
Delgado
Barfield
Henke
Alfredo Griffin?
Molitor?
Clemens?
Where the fuck is Damaso Garcia on your shitty, shitty list?
Hey, its not my top 10. This is just how it is in Toronto.
My top 10 would be more like:
Henke
Iorg
Stieb
Ainge
Eichhorn
Howell
Barfield
Velez
Whitt
Fernandez
Garth Iorg
Merriam-Webster is crediting Gary Carter with popularizing the term "F-bomb" (http://deadspin.com/5934466/dictionary-staff-credits-gary-carter-with-popularizing-f+bomb), which is being added to the next edition of the dictionary. The earliest print use of the word is from an interview with Carter in 1988.
