Title: Another new glossary item?
Post by: capt_taco on 08/08/04, 07:41:39 AM
I can't believe I didn't remember to post this one earlier; this dates back years for me...

F-Bomb: Any home run hit by Julio Franco (Am) or Curt Ford (SL), the only two RBI Baseball players with last names beginning in 'F,' except for pitcher John Franco (Na).

May also be used to refer to any home run hit by players such as Gary "F@#$*&!!" Pettis, Ozzie "F@#$*&!!" Smith, Wally "F@#$*&!!" Backman, Jose "F@#$*&!!" Uribe or Rafael "F@#$*&!!" Santana.

Is occasionally used for long home runs that are barely called foul.

Background story: This originally started for me and my childhood friends with Franco and Ford, before the expression "F-Bomb" was even started. It began when someone called a home run by Armas an 'A-Bomb', and eventually it expanded to B, C, D, and F (we only did it for grades you could get on your report card).

Once we learned more about swearing, the F-Bomb started to include any home run by a player who just flat-out sucked, most of whom you'd ordinarily pinch-hit for. Except for Ozzie, who had ZERO home runs, so he counted too.

The foul ball thing came later on, and wasn't as funny to me. But whatever.

Thoughts?
