Greetings all!
It's been a few years since I've checked in. I drop by the site from time to time and I wish I had the time to contribute more, but life keeps me pretty busy these days. Growing up is for the birds. A handful of you may recall the Tony Pena story thread from '04. For those whom haven't read the brief anecdote, I'm sure it's not too difficult to find in the archives. But I do have something new I thought I would share. First, a tad bit of background.
Long story short, I got married this year. A couple months back, we tied the knot at Turner Field actually. We didn't do the Bull Durham ceremony-on-the-field or any of that, but we had everything done in the 755 Club at the Ted, up in the suites and everything. A great great time.
I had a best man (the Tony Pena recipient) and two groomsmen, and for their wedding gifts, I gave each of them an autographed football that was personalized by someone from their individual favorite teams. One had his ball signed by Warrick Dunn, one had his done by Matt Ryan and the last one had his personalized by our school's quarterback in college. It took a bit of time and, well, luck really, to get them all done personally. But I went to pretty good lengths to get everybody something they would remember.
So anyway, a couple nights before my wedding, all my friends and family were in town. Everyone had flown in and we all met at my house and had a late-night cookout. Some beers, steaks, wiffleball in the back yard, just a time for everyone to catch up and tell stories about what a tool I was and why any woman would sign up to be around me even more was beyond them. But anyway. That of course included a game of RBI. So Tom (the best man) sat down and we had another war. Giants/Cardinals. We randomly selected our teams by turning our heads and moving left and right on our control pads a bunch of times. I was actually annoyed I got the Cardinals because I knew I was going to have few chances to take one of his tired arms deep. About the 7th inning, I pinch-hit Jim Lindeman in the middle of my order because I figured he had some decent pop coming off the bench. I took him out for Curt Ford, I believe. In he came and -- BOOM -- solo shot to put me up 2-1. And fortunately, that's the way it ended. Worrell was untouchable in the ninth. And of course all I did the rest of the weekend was talk about the moonshot I sent rocketing out of Tengen Stadium.
Some weeks went by, I got back from my honeymoon and eased back into everyday life. Same song and dance that we all go through day after day. Then one day I up and decided to plug Jim Lindeman into Google and see what I found. A couple clicks later I discovered he was a head baseball coach in Illinois, so I figured what the hell and tried my luck.
I relayed the entire story. Told him all about RBI, how I knew how crazy I had to sound, but that it meant something he - in a way - hit this home run for me. He understood. I guess he did anyway.
Linked below is the product of my efforts. I just wanted to take the time and share it with everyone before I dropped it in the mail and fired it to the best man. I hinted at Gantry a couple weeks back I may have something to show him, but this blew away any and all expectations.
As a result, Jim Lindeman is now entrenched as a cog in any and all of my future RBI St. Louis lineups.

And I don't think he was allowed to make eye contact, so we can't be 100% it was Orosco
