I've been going the the rosters in RBI Arcade and I just want to know what the programmers were thinking when rating certain players or picking players for certain teams (Houston still has no business being there). Anyway it seems they went with a players best season or high water mark (Avg & HR). Now seeing this was released in 1988 I won't use players or stats past that.
Rickey Henderson Oak
They got his high water mark (up to that point) of .319 but 9 HR? Really? He hit 24 (in '85) and 28 (in '86), had almost 300 in his career and is the undisputed king of the leadoff HR. Should have more power.
Davey Johnson Atl
OVERRATED!!!!!!!! They got his high water mark of 43 HR (in '73), but other than that never hit 20 in a season and surpassed 15 just twice, but has 900 plus power in RBI. Can anyone say Brady Anderson???
Dick Green Oak
Where's Eddie Collins???
Al Simmons Oak
Where's he?? Yeah he played for the A's when they were in Philadelphia but the guy was an animal. A pure hitter plain and simple. Avg and power.
Rick Sutcliffe Chc
How the fuck is he the ace of the staff yet Three Finger Brown and Ed Reulbach didn't even make the squad?
Maury Wills LA
Why is he on the bench and Willie Davis starting? This guy should have speed to burn, the damn guy is 1 of 4 guys to steal 100 bases in a season, and had 90+ in another.
Johnny Bench Cin
If you can explain to me why a 2 time MVP with his rating in the game is batting 8th, please enlighten me.
Frank Robinson Cin
A 2 time MVP, triple crown winner, possibly the team's best hitter starts on the bench while Griffey Sr. and Pinson start in the outfield?
Fred Lynn Bos
His high water mark was 39 HR (in '79) don't recall his power rating is but other than that never surpassed 25 HR in a season and hit mostly 20-25 a season.
Jimmie Foxx Bos
Why isn't he playing for the Athletics? Did more there than he did with the Red Sox.
Lou Gehring NYY
Always underrated, and should be batting clean up behind Ruth. Shit back then players #'s signified where they batted in the order. Hence Ruth wore 3 and Gehrig wore 4. And I know this is sacreligous, but I'm starting to question if Ruth was actually better than Gehrig. And yes I have solid reason to question this?
I've said what I have to say, but just don't understand some of the reasoning?
Good points, as for the Cubs pitchers, the game tended to stay away from dead ball era players and had a bias towards the more recent 1980s players. Both of these make marketing sense.
It should be noted that there are also many problems like this in the original RBI
Excellent piss n vinegar sir
