Title: dee-nee.com updates for 8/16/2004
Post by: Gantry on 08/16/04, 05:34:12 PM

Biggest update to the actual site was my reorganization of the RBI Baseball FAQ. I broke everything down into categories, making it much easier to find the RBI info you so desperately crave. Along the way I made a bunch of small updates for some woefully outdated information. It still has some erroneous info, but I plan to add at least 10 questions and alter 10 more by the time I leave for Ohio on Friday. So stay tuned...

A new entry for the RBI Hall of Shame - Charlie Kerfeld and his strange negotiating habits. Hopefully every RBI'er will make the list, so send me any embarassing or odd moments involving an RBI player...

On the RBI hacking front, nightwulf and I made more headway into the internals of the game. We pooled our talents to create the ultimate online RBI ROM - you can now select the same team as your opponent and pause from either controller. Think of the possibilities!

I thought maybe the fact that Marty Barrett scored the winning run in the longest game in professional baseball history probably is worth mentioning somewhere on the site. The game also featured future RBIers Wade Boggs, Cal Ripken and Bobby Ojeda, who pitched a whole inning out of the 33 played to, ahem, "earn" the victory...:

"Tuesday, June 23rd
IN THE NEWS: Dave Koza scores Marty Barrett with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 33rd inning, giving Pawtucket a 3–2 win over Rochester and ending the longest game in professional baseball history. The game had been suspended April 19th after 32 innings and eight hours, seven minutes of play, but the continuation took only 18 minutes to complete. Bob Ojeda pitches one inning to earn the win. Future ML stars Wade Boggs and Cal Ripken go a combined 6-for-25."

Oh yeah, and he also sued the Red Sox team doctor for misdiagnosing his torn ACL, and received a $2.4 million settlement...

For the hall of shame, you might want to consider adding Ryne Sandberg's wife's (Cindy) famed indiscretions with Rafael Palmeiro, which led to Sandberg retiring for a while and Palmeiro getting traded.

Always a classic.

While I believe Sandberg's wife had an affair with Palmeiro, the trade and the retirement were years apart, I'm not sure how much of an effect the affair could have had on his retirement.

He pretty clearly identified the reason for his retirement as being personal...  then he got divorced, then he returned to the Cubs...  draw your own conclusions.

Well my point is that if the Cubs traded Palmeiro because of this in 1989, then Ryno retired in 1994, it's not like he retired because he just found out about it.

Someone mentioned in another thread that it's rumored that Rey Sanchez got in on the action as well.  Can't remember the thread; might've been when Ryno23 joined the forum.

I'd never heard about that as the reason for his retirement until hearing it from fknmclane.  I'd always heard/assumed that it was because he was hitting .238 with little power despite being one of the highest-paid players in the game.

If my wife was cheating on me with Rey Sanchez, I wouldn't retire, I'd kill myself.

Apparently, his wife thought he was hitting with little power, too...

He retired in 94 for 3 reasons:

1) Personal (it was divorce time. . .too many years of too much shit)

2) Wasn't pulling his weight.  He said himself that it was fair to other ball players that he was making all this money and not playing well

3)  The impending strike.  Ryno was a guy who believed you got paid to play ball and that's exactly what he thought they should have done.

3a) The sheer fact that the wife was getting boned by rey rey sanchez probably fried Ryno's braind and damn near turned him queer. .  .. then he realized his wife turned out to be a skank ho and he dealt with the problem :D

Good stuff boys, I added sandberg's wife banging (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/hallofshame.shtml#SANDBERG) and Barretts misdiagnosed acl (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/hallofshame.shtml) to the page.  Also added the fact that Barrett made the last out of the 1986 World Series.  I didn't add that he made the winning run in the longest game because it's more of an accomplishment than shameful...

I've also heard Dave Martinez's name come up w/ respect to Cindy Sandberg (see here (http://www.all-baseball.com/cubreporter/archives/000537.html) ), but never anything about Rey Sanchez.  Couldn't even find anything mentioning it on the web...  Case of mistaken identity?

Dave Martinez makes a lot more sense, he seemed more like a ladies man, just can't imagine Rey Sanchez.

Ryno23 mentioned Sanchez in this post (http://forums.dee-nee.com/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=2743;start=msg33844#msg33844).  I'd never heard of any of this stuff before Dee-Nee, so I have no idea how accurate the info is.

Bob Stanley once missed a few games after he slipped down the stairs while taking out the trash: http://www.stevetheump.com/strange_injuries.htm (http://www.stevetheump.com/strange_injuries.htm). He is also a fat fuck who cost the Red Sox the World Series, much more so than Buckner.

Gantry can you use my "cock-inhaling hoebag" line to describe Ryno's wife? It's only fitting.

More Wade Boggs - It's no secret that the man loved to drink; Jim Rome would often tell the story related to him by a former teammate of Boggs that he watched Wade consume three cases of beer on a cross-country flight coming back from a road trip. That's 72 beers in about 6 hours. And the most amazing part, according to the teammate, was that Wade seemed more or less fine at the end of the flight.

Also, he was nicknamed "Chicken Man" by Jim Rice for his habit of eating chicken before every game. Plus, he showed himself to be a complete douchebag by kissing home plate after hitting a HR for his 3,000 hit as a member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The same team that allegedly put it into his contract that he would go into the Hall of Fame as a Devil Ray, although HoF officials later said that, no, if he's elected, he has to go in as a Red Sox.

Can you really drink 72 beers in 6 hours?  That's a beer every 5 minutes for 6 straight hours!   I don't think that's humanly possible unless you are Andre the Giant

Damn it, I guess I'll just take over this thread...

Several things need to go in for Roger Clemens:

- Has said that if he's forced to go into the Hall of Fame as a Red Sox, he'll skip the ceremony. While I agree that he should be able to go in as a Yankee if he wants, he's kind of being an ass by threatening to boycot the ceremony.

- Had a complete spastic meltdown and tried to go Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Mike Piazza with his broken bat during the World Series.

- Was ejected in the second inning of game 4 of the ALCS for arguing balls and strikes, leading to the A's completing the series sweep against the Red Sox.

- Was arrested with brother Gary in 1991 for assualting a police officer following a disturbance at a Houston nightclub.

- Of course, there's the matter of getting ejected from his son's youth baseball game this year.

Kirk Gibson:

(from Sports Illustrated): Former teammate Dave Rozema missed a start after teammate Kirk Gibson pulled a stool out from under him while he had a glass bottle of cough syrup in his back pocket.

No way, I don't believe, how many times would he have to go to the can.

72 cans = 864 ounces = 6.75 gallons of beer, I think he would be dead.

I've had friends who could go through a 12-pack an hour for a few hours. But being able to maintain that level of excellence for six hours seems like a Herculian task...But, if Jim Rome said it happened, it must be true...

As much as I've always wanted to believe that an RBI player could accomplish the feat, I still find it a little hard to buy into.  One of the most impressive displays of drinking i've ever seen was when spike_owen#1's brother drank 36 bottles at the strip club in about 3 1/2 hours.  This guy goes about 6'4" 350 though and was absolutely fucked up.  Seeing that, I find it a little hard to believe that someone could double it.

I know its not an actuall appearance but in the movie the Rookie you get to see both Wade Boggs and Jose Canseaco's Devil Rays jerseys hanging up, this might be worth a mention.

Roogs, what are you talking about
1) Grace wasn't married at this time
2) The Cubs traded Palmiero in a deal for Mitch Williams

sorry about the palmiero thing. My point was he had nothing to do with ryno's wife. Grace was banging her then. He didn't have to be married to be banging another man's wife.
God did grace smoke a lot.
