Title: Shooting Down Myths...
Post by: OzzieLongBall on 08/19/04, 08:19:23 PM
Since the trend on this message board lately seems to be righting some of the wrongs that so many of us have held as truths, I pose this one to the Rom-editing Gods above... I firmly believe that if you have an outfielder throw the the base furtherst from him, you get a superior throw... I have gotten to the point where I use this to perfection (at least in my head?) with the Cardinals... for instance, if a runner is tryin to score and the ball is in leftfield, i will throw to 1B, but cut it with Ozzie somewhere to the left of second at just the right time, and gun it home... I'm convinced this is faster than throwin to third, or even throwing to home and cutting it... I could be completely wrong, but I am pretty renowned in our circle for my cut-offs... i do feel there may be an exception to this though, and that is never to try and throw straight home from centerfield (even tho it is the furthest base), i think the move is to throw to whichever is further, 1B or 3B and cut-it... does anyone else out there use this technique, and is there any way to verify its effectiveness???

I regularly use this technique but...

what you're calling a superior throw is what I assume to be a throw where the ball gets larger because it's higher up.  This regularly happens when throwing to first or third from the opposite side of the diamond.
But the ball doesn't have to get big for a throw to be superior.  Throwing a guy out at first from right field requires a superior throw.  The difference is simply that this throw doesn't get height since it's closer, it's just a fucking laser, throwing out the likes of Tony Armas, Fat Hrbek and Fatty Nokes.

This is what I have to contribute:  a superior throw (one where the ball becomes larger while in flight) only occurs when the ball is thrown from a certain distance, for example:  from RF to 3B, LF to 1B, or OF to HP.

I hope this makes sense.

My best assumption on this matter is that it's just a product of the game engine, and not some coding oddity.

Nightwulf searched all the routines and he doesn't see any evidence of Big Foot.

Quotespeaking of the cubs, i  wanna make love to aramis. he's my hero.

Aramis is the fucking man.  He's been a fantasy beast for my team this year.  He also showed me not to fuck with him by hitting a 3 run bomb yesterday.  I had him sitting cause I was pissed at him for missing games last week.

I forgot about that doubleheader, which is sweet cause I have Pujols and i'll need him too.

Right now I have a 34 game lead over 2nd place but am getting my ass kicked this week.  This is because I have such a big margin for error I like to get pissed and sit good players just for the hell of it like Aramis.  Brian Giles is also on my bench this week hitting .800 with 3R, 2HR, 5RBI.  They are replaced by Rob Quinlan who I picked up just to start for 1 week and immediately went on the DL and Wily Mo (1-11, 1R, 1HR, 1RBI).  I also have Torii Hunter who got fucked up by the wall last night and is now day-to-day.
