Title: Online Manners
Post by: Ryno23 on 08/20/04, 12:04:26 AM
I've played a few online games and it seems to me that with the various controllers and keyboards out there, mistakes are gonna happen.

Accidental throws to the outfield, catcher throws to third on a steal of second, etc, etc.  JoeDirt and I generally gave ourselves up if we got on base via a controller / keyboard screw up.

What do you guys think about some kind of ettiquette or rules?  I know my controller can't throw to 2B for shit.  It's pretty obvious when it happens.

You usually can tell when a guy has an equiment malfunction :D

BTW, super great job on getting the server going strong.  Not much lag at all tonite.

Yeah, and believe it or not, Ryno, I think I still threw you out one or two times when you obviously had a controller mess up, in our several games...but, all of those times that I did, I had a keyboard F up and couldn't "not" throw you out.   ???

Seriously.  That's about as dumb as I can be.

It's really a gray area much of the time, but most times it's obvious when there's been an F up.

Back in the day (NES) my friends and I gave ourselves up in the same manner.

In our minds if you hit a grounder to first (in real life) the first baseman won't just throw it to the bag 100 mph and allow you to run the bases :D

The one situation I see, and joedirt did this with me, is on deep grounders in the hole.  No matter who's running you have to get that perfect combination of D-pad + A button and sometimes it just doensn't get hit correctly and you throw to the bag where your player is running (ex running right into the whole and accidentally throw to 3B).  In this situation, the runner keeps his bag (joe gave himself up twice against me).

Damn, i'm too old. . . . and too nice.

Marriage and fatherhood does that sort of thing to a person.

my problem is throwing to 2B. . .whether it be on double plays, throws from the outfield, or thowing out an attempted base stealer.

Running the bases is no problem.

I use a logitech dual action controller.

I have a friend who has the same problem throwing to 2B on his computer.  I brought over my Gravis Gamepad once and let him use that, and he had the same problem, while I was fine using his controller.  I think it might be that RBI takes a diagonal as a throw to first or third rather than second, and maybe your thumb is sitting wrong on the control pad somehow.  No idea how to fix it, unfortunately; I just used manners similar to what you've been talking about on this thread (I'd only steal second with someone like Coleman, who'd make it no matter what, and I didn't take any extra bases on obvious blown throws).
