Title: RBI season
Post by: malnuboy on 08/23/04, 10:54:29 PM
I just started an RBI season by myself, I am keeping track of the more important stats on my CPU (hits, HR's, K's, ERA) I dont quite know how I'm going to work it out, but since I don't think I can lose to the computer, it should be interesting, I have choosen Boston as my team, and for the record Calvin Shiraldi has a 27.00 ERA with one inning pitched, and three HR's allowed. I'm a loser. Anyone else ever try something similar.

i've tried it..but i have no patience to even beat all the teams at once let alone a whole regular season, however many games that consists of, and keep stats...usually i beat about the first 3 or 4 teams, and i get bored of whooping ass.

I've done this dozens of times, with pretty detailed statistics.  It takes a while, and I wouldn't recomend doing it in one day.  It's definitely a pain in the ass to record a statistic after each at-bat.

If you save all of your records, it's kinda fun to go through another season to see if you can break your all-time records.

It's hard to balance a great pitching season with a great batting season.  I usually would give the computer the runs it needed to keep the game alive when I was in danger of skunking them.  This definitely hurts the pitchers.

Yeah I have just accepted the slaughter rule as part of the game, for example Clemens pitched a complete game shutout the other day, but he only went one inning, what do you recomend for length of season? I was thinking 20 games or so, obviously not in one day.

I usually just go with the 9 games (beat every team).  You could also download the homerun derby version on nightwulf's site.  You can't record strikeouts or walks, but there is no slaughter rule.

18 might be the ideal number, but I usually just do the 9 at a time.

When I was a kid I used to play seasons and keep stats but haven't done it anytime since then, which was like 88-89.

Last summer we had a big group of guys who played RBI pretty much daily.  BigReg44 picked up a scorebook from a sporting goods store and we had plans to get a league together among our friends, keep stats, and have an overall RBI All Star team based on the stats.  It pretty much went the way of the big straight pitch tourney and everything else we plan.

Yeah, we too were going to document all the stats in our yearly tourneys but that quickly went by the wayside.  It's simply too much work for our lazy asses.  You have to get a pal who likes that shit and pay him in beer to do all the stats.  We simply mark down the ending score and dingers now, everything else is too much work for us, especially when we've had a few bruskies in us...

Gantry, you asshole. All you have to do is make the loser of the last game keep stats; it's not that difficult if someone's actually dedicated to it full-time. My friends and I did this all the time in elementary and junior high, though we weren't drinking beer at the time.

Hell, one of us may still have the stats laying around somewhere in a box of random shit kept in a closet. That'd be interesting to look at, since it covered hundreds or thousands of games between people of all different skill levels... I'd rather drink a 40 of Olde English, though.

My malt liquor of choice has gotta be the High Gravity Lager, Steel Reserve.  Either that or Coldcock, one thicker malt liquor.
