I love the zen-like silence of the game's first play, before the music comes in, but there are sound effects. How difficult would it be to modify the ROM to just never start the music up? My friends and I dig the sound effects.
Edit: I was able to locate the music in a hex editor, and I can fuck the music up, but I can't seem to be able to just stop it.
It would be cool to fuck around with when the music starts. Maybe wait til the first homer or seventh inning stretch or ninth inning.
Good question, and welcome zhx! Do any emulators have this feature? I'm not sure how standardized the locations for sound/music are on NES carts. If not, gotta think it's a matter of finding the spots where they start the music and jumping around them. I'm guessing there are two spots, one for standard and one for men on base?
Maybe comparing what runs on that first pitch compared to the subsequent pitch might be key.
the first pitch homer is a thing of beauty. It just sails out of the park in silence and the first thing you hear is the boom of the fireworks.
Agreed. Top moment in the game for sure.

I was using FCEUXD SP (http://www.the-interweb.com/serendipity/index.php?/categories/9-FCEUXD-SP) which has a built-in ROM filter and hex editor. Unfortunately, there are about 400 changes in the RAM after the first pitch and I haven't been able to figure out which one is telling the ROM to play the music. If it even works that way...

Alan Trammell is the king of the silent homer
