I clearly have too much time on my hands...
Wade Boggs
.357, 207 hits, 107 runs, 47 doubles, 105 walks, .453 OBP, .939 OPS, 7th in MVP voting
Gary Carter
24 home runs, 105 RBI, 3rd in MVP voting
Roger Clemens
24-4, 238 Ks, 2.48, AL MVP, AL Cy Young
Gary Gaetti
34 home runs, 91 runs, 34 doubles, 108 RBI, Gold Glove 3B
Kirby Puckett
.328, 31 home runs, 119 runs, 37 doubles, 96 RBI, 223 hits, 20 SB, .537 slugging, .903 OPS, 365 total bases, Gold Glove OF, 6th in MVP voting
Jim Rice
.324, .874 OPS, 98 Runs, 20 home runs, 200 hits, 39 doubles, 110 RBI, 3rd in MVP voting
Darryl Strawberry
27 home runs, 28 SB, .507 slugging, .865 OPS, 93 RBI
im going with Boggs..the hits and monster OBP.
I went with Puckett for similar reasons. First of all, 223 hits is huge. 31 homers and 96 RBI are solid too. Most of these guys are pretty even as far as the offensive numbers go, but Puckett also earned a Gold Glove. All-Around, I'd say he had the best season.
MVP and Cy Young, pretty amazing. I'm going Rocket.
Pitchers rarely get the MVP, but when they do, they also get the CY Young Award. The first Cy Young was awarded in 1956, and Don Newcombe won it and the MVP.
Bob Gibson and Denny McClain did it in 1968, and Sandy Koufax did it in 1963.
Before 1956, 13 pitchers won their league's MVP.
All of this shows that it has become increasingly harder for a pitcher to win the MVP award. It happened in Mickey Mantle's era, but Clemens is an anomoly when it comes to the post-1980 era of baseball.
Good Call, BDawk.
Between Puckett, Boggs, and Clemens, I could easily go with any of them
no doubt rocket.
It'd be too easy to just give it to the guy that won the MVP. :)
Boggs of these choices. Tim Raines and Mike Schmidt, in the NL.
All-Stars are not real RBIers. >:(
I vote Tony Armas. :o
.264, 11 HR, 58 RBI.
I agree.
