Title: An RBI dream come true...
Post by: Turd on 07/20/16, 07:39:09 AM
I've been growing my own personal RBI/Tecmo opponent for close to 9 years now.  Today, as I work at my home office, I can hear my son in the other room (in his tighty whities, mind you) playing my RBI 2016 game on actual NES hardware, cheering on homeruns and grumbling about misplaying balls in the field.

The stars have finally aligned.  It is time to harvest.

YES!

It's such a great development when your kid not only wants to play games with you but actually reaches a point where they're kinda good at it as well.

He's in there right now teaching his best friend how to play.  He took the scabby brewers and gave his friend toronto and proceeded to let him jack a few homers, just to "get a taste."  I'm so proud.

My son did the same with a friend last summer.  I was EXTREMELY proud.

My 7-year-old son and I have been playing RBI 2016 on Xbox, and I couldn't be happier that he's really getting into it.

We play with his team set to assisted fielding and mine manual. I also let him pitch whatever he wants, and I always throw strikes, though not necessarily down the middle every time. With those settings, it's about 50/50 between us.

It's cool because he's learning new players around the league other than just the Reds, and picking his favorite guys and ones he doesn't like. Also, without even realizing it, he's picking up what to do in real baseball situations in the field or on the basepaths. There's no amount of coaching that will get that through in tee ball and machine pitch where every at bat is a strikeout or infield single.

We do the same on the PS4.  And I agree, before some plays I ask him, now where is the play with baserunners on here?  Good stuff...

My 6 years old uses the NES regularly, usually for some version of RBI or TSB
