Noah G. and I met up tonight for a few games of RBI (my first online games!). We played one game of straight-pitch followed by two games of curve. I thought to grab screenshots of the latter two.
First game: MN (BeefMaster) 10, CA (Noah G.) 16
I almost crawled back from a wicked deficit, but Noah put me away with a barrage in the 9th. Brunansky and Hrbek were big for me, and I seem to recall DeCinces having a big game for Noah. His whole team was money, though.
Second game: SL (BeefMaster) 5, CA (Noah G.) 4
Clark and Lindeman each had 2-run bombs for me, and I managed to hold on despite Noah giving me a scare with a couple manufactured runs off a tired Tudor in the 6th. The Angels' bombers were held homerless by virtue of my pitching around them as much as possible.
Third game: SF (BeefMaster) 7, CA (Noah G.) 6, 12 innings
Yep - 12 innings. Spilman got me out to a quick lead with a 3-run blast in the second, and I manufactured a couple more in the 3rd to take what I thought was a commanding lead. Then Noah came charging back. Joyner answered with a 3-run shot in the bottom of the 3rd, then DeCinces added a solo wallzie in the 5th. I manufactured another run in the 7th, but Schofield came right back in the 8th to tie it up with a 2-run jack. We battled through several scoreless innings before finally Spilman came through again with a solo shot in the top of the 12th, and I held on for the win. A great, great game.

Let it be know that I used a keyboard, and Beefmaster used a controller. Great games...awesome fucking games. I'm just curious to see what happens when I am using a controller, too....????
Sorry, I meant to mention that in my wrapups, too - you deserve mad props for playing that well with the keyboard. I've tried using the keyboard, and I wasn't all that good, so I found your games quite impressive. You especially had your throws down - I don't think you tossed a rainbow all three games, while I was lobbing the ball all over the place with my gamepad.
Great writeup Beefmaster! Do you and Noah G. know each other personally or did you set it up via the forums? What did you think about timing/lag? What controller were you using? The NES USB controller we bought is a big improvement over the gravis, throws are much better and less throwing to the incorrect base....
We happened to meet in the forums; I didn't even know where Noah's from until I just glanced at his profile. I stopped into chat to see if anyone was in there, and Noah happened to jump in and suggest a game. There were a couple of lag spikes, but the game was never unplayable for more than a pitch at a time.
I use a Gravis GamePad Pro for the controller. I've played enough RBI with it that I don't have much trouble with throwing to the wrong base (a friend of mine can never throw to second, though, either with his generic 4-button controller or my Gravis). I noticed that I had a harder time than usual getting off quick throws, although that may be because I've been playing some Baseball Simulator 1.000 lately, which doesn't require any throwing skill.
I just jumped into chat, by the way, if you're interested in a game now.
