Read his autobiography in junior high school.  Multiple people gave me shit for it.  I found it interesting.

Mostly unrelated, but Darren Daulton died yesterday too.

Big bat in the Red Sox lineup. Will play a game tonight in his honor.

My first post in years. Saw the news and had to pay my respects. Legend.

I haven't updated my database in a while, probably a few Arcade guys have passed in the last 2 years too.  I may get around to it.

So sad, love Baylor.  Isn't he the all-time HBP king?

My first RBI Wiki update in ages:

http://wiki.dee-nee.com/wiki/Don_Baylor

Looks like I never made an RIP category, list all the RBI'ers who have passed away.

Rod Carew would be a mediocre RBI player, so it's probably best he wasn't in it...

Found a post from a few years ago and added some others that I remembered:

Moore
Puckett
Uribe
Dave Smith
Carter
Gwynn
Bergman
Henderson
Baylor

Any others we're forgetting?

I was going to post how surprising it was that everyone on the NY Mets has survived so far - but then I remembered Carter :(

I could have sworn Darryl Strawberry was dead.

Thanks for the list Beefy, I'll update the wiki

Wikipedia says bile duct cancer, which sounds awful.

Fred Lynn was on pace to be a hall of famer and then he decided to leave Fenway where he absolutely raked.

The wiki has been updated, all dead RBI'ers (NES) are in the RIP category (http://wiki.dee-nee.com/wiki/Category:R.I.P.) - any more RBI'ers missing?  Remember that thing about pinch hitters with a last name of H having more power?  It's clear from that page that having a first letter of D makes you more prone to dying.

Each player page now has a blurb about their death and most death link to a "Notable RBI events in X year" page, like 2006:

http://wiki.dee-nee.com/wiki/2006

Might want to clean up the Donnie Moore page a bit. No mention of his death in the main entry, and the bullet-point for his death (pun maybe intended?) just lists the date of death, not that he actually died on that day.

Also, Puckett's entry is the only one with standard birth and death dates listed in parenthesis behind his name, i.e. "Kirby Puckett (March 14, 1960 - March 6, 2006)..."

Those two were already in there, but yeah your points are valid.  Would love to standardize but that would take a monumental effort and I'd need help.

Let me throw this out there, how many people would be willing to put in 20-30 minutes or so of work on the wiki to improve it?  Maybe we'll do "adopt an RBI'er" where everyone picks a player (or two) and cleans up their page, adds funny pics, etc. Editing the wiki is darn simple not much different than editing a forum post.

That said, I'll do the birth and death thing in parenthesis for all the RIPs shortly.
