Any idea why we don't have Rickey Henderson on the AL all star team? He was a starter on the team for the entire era the RBI pulled stats from.
My best guess is that they wanted to get someone with more power because of the lack of powerful options at 2B and C for the AL team. But then again Harold Baines is a 792 power, which Henderson could have matched.
Another shitty theory is that they already had two Oakland A's and didn't want a third. Or if he was on the Yankees at the time they had two of those guys as well.
Al All Stars have 3 yankees already - Mattlingly, Randolph and Righetti. They could have easily dropped Randolph or Righetti (give me some Pleasac instead).
Didn't we once come to the conclusion that part of the trick with the All-Star teams was that they tried to get at least one player from each team that wasn't already in the game? I was thinking that was the explanation for Pedrique and a few of the other lesser guys. Time to do some research, I guess...
I don't recall that, but it would make sense. Research away...

That was my theory and they did it with the NL. But in the AL they still missed Seattle and Texas. Which could have easily been fixed by removIng Schroeder and Seitzer.
It was because of Rickey Henderson's snatch catches!
Or when he declared "I am the greatest of all time!" after he beat Lou Brock's stolen base record.
Other than that, it's a mystery.
He beat the record like three years after RBI came out

All-time record was in 1991 - I remember it well because had both versions of the Upper Deck card commemorating it (he and Brock posed together holding a base, and the Series Two version photoshopped the date of the record-breaking steal onto the base).
1991 in baseball cards, 1990 in real life, if memory serves.

Nope - the card with the date on it came out during the season because he broke the record early in '91. The updated card (with the date) came out during the year, with the cards that had the new teams for players who had moved
So I think everyone agrees that we should've gotten Rickey in the game. He'd probably have been statted up like Tim Raines with slightly more power and speed.
When it comes down to it, Peter Lipson likely made all the decisions and I have a feeling he was pretty random/arbitrary about it.
He has Coleman level speed in the Arcade version
In the arcade version, R.Hndrsn:
Contact 13
Power 705
Speed 148
Wow, 705? That's crazy low - don't think anyone in NES RBI has one that low

Correcto! Sntana's power is 708 and he's the lowest. His contact is 38 and his speed is 124.
The player with the lowest power rating on the arcade version is Vince Coleman. His power is 690, contact is 26, and speed is 148.
We should have an arcade RBI fantasy league one of these days.
In.
Also in, but let's get to ten teams.
Do we have an Arcade RBI excel file with player attributes?
im obviously down
Definitely down for that. To my knowledge, we don't have an excel file for the arcade version, but I think I'll go ahead and create one. It's going to require a little research since I don't know all the positions of the old time players. I can go ahead and run that league ... maybe. It would have to be not too long after the current season of course. And I would need help, very little help, to run the league, such as somebody running my games from their computer since that will save me some time with videoing the file creation and then going right into the game to further cement my game's legitimacy.
Here are the teams and all the attributes of the players. Any one of you are free to make that excel file!

I can help with positions darky.
I would absolutely be in on that.
In, need 10 teams just because of the depth of arcade talent

Please do that if you can because that would be a huge help, thanks. I'll start on the excel file real soon here and get all the names and attributes down.
The league won't run unless it's 10 teams. And if Fighton really wants to do the league, fine with me. However, I know he'll need a breather after this Fantasy season because running a league is a lot of work and he took things up a notch with his podcast. Plus, he's doing the stats. We'll see, but all I know is that he is re-energized. I feel like we all should chip in 10 or 20 bucks at the end of the year as a thank you. Or I can send him a Dala Häst!
And good to see that you'll be in Ultimate! It's too bad you missed this season's draft and all that.
Did we do a combined arcade/NES league once? That strikes me as familiar.
Yeah, Darky, if you want to run this one, I'm more than happy to hand over the reins. Would love to have a team if possible.

Done deal! It would be interesting to see what kind of team you would draft and field. And I think there is a lot of excitement building up for an arcade RBI Fantasy league because of the novelty.
