i grew up on RBI baseball, as well as the other great mid/late eighties NES games. Now i'm an old ass man at the age of 36, and the only video games i could ever really get into are the games from my youth. i never had an SNES but had a friend who had one so i got my share of gaming on with him, and a few months ago i was able to snag one of the new retro mini SNES consoles from my local Game Stop. so that was pretty cool, and just as i was ready to give that console a break, my brother in law got my family one of those generic NES mini ripoffs for Christmas. the three amazing games that i've been playing on this sucker are Dr Mario, GOLF (trust me it's great), and of course, RBI Baseball. this was the only baseball game i played growing up. my son has a PS3 and i've played the MLB the show game, and while that is all well and good, it may as well be on another planet as far as comparisons to the great RBI baseball.
so after i got back into this game, i stumbled onto this labor of love, amazingly hilarious web site, and have been pleased to see that there is a large stable of RBI fans. i am interested in getting into the online two player RBI ROMs that are available online, but currently do not have a home computer, just a laptop that i don't think would work for downloading one of the RBI ROMs. when i get to that point, i may have a few questions as i am pretty dumb tech wise, but until then i will just continue to play my RBI Baseball 1p against the computer. so before i leave you, my preferences.
fave teams (non all star) Cali & Minnesota. i seem to have pretty good luck starting Viola for Minn and i think it is Winn for California. if you include all star teams, my best SP is Saberhagen by far, the computer is unable to hit anything off him until at least inning number 4 or 5 and he starts to tire.
i agree Detroit is the most stacked team offensively, and i usually have good luck with Alexander.
as a Cubs fan i fucking hate St Louis & the Mets, although have been known to use the Mets every once and a while since Gooden is so fun to use.
I'm really looking to playing online and actually facing someone that isn't the shitty computer.
have a good one!

Welcome Bebop (Chris is a weird nickname).
Nice to get some fresh blood in here. Hopefully you'll stick around and post in the other sections as well.

Welcome, Bebop! You should invite Rocksteady to join as well.

What kind of laptop is it? Unless it's some real weirdo device, you can almost certainly put an emulator and ROMs on it. One of the nice things about enjoying a 30-year-old game is that even the shittiest computer has plenty of power to run it easily.
welcome dog
beef is right. online rbi has been online for at least 10 years so you should be good.
golf is indeed fun. what's your best score? the club record we had growing up was a -18, which was during a 2-player match where i shot a -17. tho i'm sure people on here have beaten that score
it's a Hewlett Packard (sp) i think? i bought it last June so my son could take it to school, they use lap tops in junior high for a lot of classes. so it comes with 28gb, but 19/20 is already used up for required system space. there is literally less then a gb left and there is no excessive games/porn/really anything that i can find to delete to free up some space. is there like a semi-cheap way to get extra hardrive space? if so then i can just use that and then download the ROM/emulator.
ill have to check on my high golf score but it's not impressive, i used to be pretty good and there were two holes that i could get hole-in-ones on here and there which always made me feel god-like. my problem is the putting, god how i suck at putting.
we used to keep an NES emulator & hundreds of roms on a flash drive.
you should be good, or if you want, just buy a cheap flash drive
cool i'll give it a shot, and if that doesn't work go the flash drive route.
tip: keep the rom files in a folder with your emulator client. they'll be easier to find
Laptops generally are hard (if not impossible) to update hard drive space, but like nomaaa said, emulators and NES ROMs are pretty tiny. And if you do go the flash drive route (assuming the thing's got a USB port for you to use), even the smallest one in existence will fit every NES game ever made.
Let me know if you need help getting online, I'll get you setup and play you in a few games...
P.S. I'm working on getting a new awesome hack working on RBI. If it happens, it'll be pretty sweet...
P.S. If you just want to play RBI, the emulator and RBI rom will be less than 4MB total. shoot me an email (travis at jansens dot us), I'll get ya setup.
cool thanks! once i get the flash drive i will give you a holler.
Cool. But what I'm saying is, even with 19/20 GB used, this ain't gonna put you over the edge unless you only have 4MB left. You might not need a flash drive...either way, your call...

Are you at liberty to give us any idea about what this is, or are you waiting until it's completely ready?
