Title: Glorious comebacks
Post by: GreatScott on 09/14/04, 01:18:58 PM
Topic:  Most memorable comebacks.  Spin a yarn about the most fabled come from behind victory of your RBI career.  He's one from just today that is definently up there for me.

its the bottom of the ninth.  3-2 Boston leads the Mets.  two out.  ray knight digs in and bob stanley prepares to close it out.  The wind up and the pitch.  A swing and roller up the infield that finds a hole in the middle.  Base hit Ray Knight to keep the mets alive.  Up comes 8 hole hitter timmy teufel.  Stanley wants none of him gedman put out the intentional pass.  Teufel trots to first on the intentional pass.  Knight to second.  Subbing in for orosco is Danny Heep.  Boston fans starting to get just a little nervous.  Stanley winds up and its a ball inside.  1-0.  Looks like theyre gonna try and jam him.  the 1-0 ... theres a swing and a long drive to left.  That ball is back back back gone GONE ... and the METS win METS win METS win.

I fucking flipped over in my computer chair.  Online RBI is awesome ... thanks for bringing it to life Dee-Nee.

Only once in before finding Dee-Nee did I ever play anyone I didn't know very well.  My freshmen year of college (this was 12 years ago so the details are a bit fuzzy) this guy on my dorm floor found out I played claimed he was great, etc. etc.

Anyhow he will only play AL vs. NL, 2 teams I'm not used to at all.  Anyhow I get down big early, maybe 8-0 (curve).  Still down like 8 runs in the 7th, when the big shot starts bragging to everyone watching that he's gonna pitch a complete game with whoever he started.  Well of course his pitcher tires and I start pounding him, and by the time he takes him out I'm back in the game like 9-7 and come back to win 11-9, it was sweet.

I was playing one of my friends I've never lost to in about 20 games and just getting pounded.  My friend isn't a bad player, just can't ever seem to beat me.  I had Detroit playing American and down by 8 going into the bottom of the ninth.  I was pissed cause it was going to be my first loss to him when all of a sudden I just start hitting bombs.  If I remember right I scored 9 runs without making an out.  My friend was pissed and still hasn't beat me yet.

my best comeback was a Cards vs Angels thriller... i was down 5-2 in the bottom of the ninth when Ozzie got one of those cheap singles to the left side of the infield that i love so much... t herr crapped out as usual.. my buddy decided to pitch to JClark, figurin even with a 2 run job W McGee would be easy...  Clark hit one as deep as possible to center field, but was caught in web gem fashion (or wtvr u guys call it, the weird laying-out motion) ON THE WALL... next batter, w/2 outs willie mcgee doubles and now its 2nd and 3rd... enter Terry Pendleton... first pitch fastball, 3R HR... we're headin to extras... this is where it gets interesting (i know its been a real nail-biter so far), but to get to the pt, I go down 2 runs in the 12th and T. Herr redeems himself by hitting a 2-out bases (loaded) clearing double to win it... T Pena, Dayley and Lindeman were the 3 that scored on the play, which was all the more incredible since none of them would qualify for a special olympics 100m dash... to see those 3 truckin around the bases, going for the glory... it felt pretty damn good...
