Title: RBI BULLPEN
Post by: sucka free on 10/24/02, 12:57:37 PM
Who is the meaniest RBI'er out of the pen?

I would say Garrelts from SF.  He's got the gas.  Curvey ol'Stanley is pretty curvey, but I've given up many a dramatic homer with him.

garrelts is a good call.  I didn't even think of him.  Your assement on Stanley is a great one.  My nickname for him is "the liability"

Garrelts is especially effective after the slow throwing krukow.  Hitters have trouble timing the heater for the first couple at bats.

I feel Jesse Orosco falls along the same lines as Stanley, he is salty on occasion, but tends to give up the game winner every now and then

When playing straight pitch, Willie Hernandez is an absolute bitch.  So difficult to hit with lefties and the speed between his fastball and normal pitch keep you guessing.  Very tough to adjust to after Morris/Doyle...

I think Garrelts gives up way too many bombs.  I think Stanley is the man.  Berenguer has the best heat, but as Ernie Banks once said, "I can hit a bullet as long as it's straight."

Overall if I needed a guy for one inning... I'd take Orosco.  Sidewinders are almost impossible to hit, especially same handed.

in my humble opinion, i would give the nod to Jeff Reardon.  while he might not have the velocity of garrelts, he does have a great cutter that is effective against both lefties and righties.   his partner in the pin, berenguer is also very effective, giving the twinkies the best bully in the game.

i too like Jessie Orosco out of the pen, side-winders are always effective and he is a lefty which is rare. but if i had to have someone come in and slam the door it would definetly be Beringer from the twins. his overpoweing fastball works well after u lull them to sleep with Viola's excelent control.

worrell is by far the best coming out of the pen throwing gas after the slow throwing of tudor cox and daley

id have to go with either orosco or with worrell....they are both rock solid and the sidearms are so tough to guess with...i usually lose those battles.....

I think Orosco  and Worrel are both good.  Although Worrel has blown a couple games for me, Orosco always comes in before Mcdowel.  Berenguer is also good and throws hard, but if he's hit a couple times he'll lose 20 mph on his pitches.

me and my cousins have always found side-arm pitchers hard to hit.....anyone else feel this way?  Maybe its just in our heads but they release the ball with great mystery....

when it comes to sidearmers, there are two types... the nasty and the pussy.  the only difference between the two is a curve/slider...  example...  bedrosian is nasty because his ball has movement whereas kerfield is pussy because his ball has none...  resulting in many a shots landing in the seats.    kerfield is slightly effective against righties.

If you count all-star teams, Bedrosian is pretty nasty.

If not I say any side-armer is unhittable for 1 inning.

i would not go so far as to say unhittable they are pretty good but i like hitting against them better once you get a good look at them they throw so damn slow that you can pound it into the seats.

even kerfield piner...  i'd have to argue with that.

saberhagen is the only one who is a starter and has a decent slider...he is a pain...  orozco and bedrock are real tough on hitters and make hitters happy to see the likes of john franco and mcdowell.
