Title: Something different happened to me...
Post by: NotURMasButArmas on 10/24/02, 09:40:59 PM
I am aware that with a guy on first you can throw to second for the DP and not have the man coming to second get called out. With that being said, I was playing by myself against the computer and it was a routine ground ball to short (I believe) and I threw it to first to get the out. Ok here's the thing, after I get someone out at first with nobody on I usually run towards home and throw it in the outfield. I did this and the runner was not called out. In order for the first baseman to move he must have the ball right? So why didn't the guy get out? Has anyone had this happen to them?

I think maybe you took off too quickly. In your first example, I think too quick a throw causes the game to not register the out. Maybe it's the same thing here. You might have taken off too fast for the out to register.
But, I honestly have never seen that happen. Were you drinking heavily or medicated while playing?

Yeah, not fully tagging on first base has happened to us before (in addition to the false second base tag you mentioned).  Best bet is to just wait for the "OUT" to appear before you throw the ball or leave the base.

That's news to me, I'll have to add it to the glitch page...

No I wasn't drinking heavily. It really did happen, it was the first time ever to me and I've played my fair share of RB like I said.

rbi umpires are the only ones the planet who did not receive the "in the area" memo.  you know the one that states that if a fielder is anywhere near the bag, a force out will be recorded.  its the same memo that says the fielder doesn't necessarily have to catch the ball as long as it appears to go in their glove.  it would be nice if umpires making a lot of money could actually see, then again, its become part of baseball.
