So to this date I'm still questioning those so called "Bay Area" RBI players out there... in all honesty, what Bay Area/CA RBI players?
Oh yes, I'd be talking about those 7 (or more) players (whose names will remain anonymous) who claim they are the best at RBI. That's right, those guys who challenge players from everywhere across the country. Yet, they themselves have never made an effort to leave their couches and play elsewhere. So I ask now, how hardcore can these invisible players actually be? And for the love of God, when are they going to prove it?
For Jeff Bandur and I have traveled 800 miles (one-way) by car from Chicago to New York to "watch" an RBI tournament that never even got off the ground. We weren't even "in" the tournament, but the attraction of another 32 player RBI tournament was so great that we absolutely had to see it in person. D-E-D-I-C-A-T-I-O-N my dear friends, spell it out.
Oh and there's more... Let's not forget our 1,248 mile (one-way) journey to visit those crazy Texans. Yes, time was limited and we had to make the round-trip journey in 48 hours. But did this discourage the RBI Baseball COTUT members? No, not at all. In the words of my great friend Joey Freedman, "RBI fer Life." D-E-D-I-C-A-T-I-O-N, go ahead, spell it out again.
So where are those Bay Area/California players at? Why are they not representing their state and local chapters? Are they not aware that Bban7700, russellcox, McGuire, and Sevier are coming to Chicago from Massachusetts, Texas, Arizona, and Washington respectively to participate in the largest and most competitive RBI Baseball tournament ever? I find it extremely hard to believe that not a single CA player can find the time to make it to the tourney and do what all these other extraordinary players are doing, representing. One final time, you know the drill... D-E-D-I-C-A-T-I-O-N.

P.S. We had it in our plans to travel to Garden Grove, CA to play those so called "Bay Area players" next summer. However, we've done more than our fair share of traveling to compete. They need to show us they're dedicated sometime over the next 2 months (possibly December 27th-29th?), and only then will we give them a glimpse of what COTUT competition is all about.
hey smokey,
if you are looking for garden grove in the bay area you are wasting your time... we are socals right next to disneyland.
bring your dedication on down and lets see who is dedicated.
Hence, I stated "California" in the subject as well as Bay Area. But thanks for once again proving my point that you Californians won't get off your asses to compete. What's your fear, not having the home field advantage?

I'm not sure if I am the only Bay area rep but I'll see if I cna make it. Its not a matter of dedication, its more a matter of timing. 27th to the 29th are tough days to get off work considering the holidays, but I'll see what I can do
Thank you sucka free. But unless you run a sole proprietorship, I don't view work as a legitimate excuse. Come on, we're talking about a 3 day, 32 player R.B.I. Baseball tournament here. This is history. Never before has such a monumental feat been accomplished. Bban7700, russellcox, and everybody else from out-of-state (not to mention alot of in-staters) are taking time off from work too. All I'm asking is for one player from Bay Area/CA to join. So where are the rest of you at?

...Callin' people's asses out. I like that.

Why is it that we don't see any of the Cali-boys busting out of their crib to show us their Ribbie skills (if they have any)???
I know of one Cali boy (Augie Garrido) that came to the Lone Star State and RBI Champion Headquarters and won a National Championship with The University of Texas Longhorns this past summer. That's about it. All I have to say is this: If you got game, bring it. If you ain't a big dog, stay on the porch with the puppies. Chi-town boys...I will give you this: You fellers have cahones the size of mountain oysters. Driving down to the RBI Champion Headquarters of Austin in 48 hrs. roundtrip is some feat. Now it's my duty to return the favor. Therefore, I will be there for the 2nd COTUT in the burbs of Chi-town. I at least know you'll be bringing some game. So sucka free and Gywnn3k, take off yer Mickey Mouse ears and get out to Chi-town to play the best.... and sucka...I'll bet you all 10 of my fingers you'd get beat.
Boy, y'all be mad competitive.... I'm having a tough time convincing my roomies to make the 40 minute trip to the tourney, let alone across the US. You guys are hardcore, keep it up!
The problem is the holidaze. I'll be in Hawaii, and my fellow Hammer of the Gods brethren (from the Bay Area), can't ditch their wives and kids like they usually do, for that one week of the year. It's bush league, I know, but it can't be averted in this particular year. Next time there will be someone to represent in the RBI COTUT, My word to Jim Rice's mythical bat, there will be. Please hold it in the summertime if you can, and make it an Annual rather than Bi-Annual event.
-DK
Hawaii and family are reasonable excuses. However, my position still stands as is. If California has such a huge RBI following, which it appears it does from this forum and the RBI websites out there, then there has to be someone who can represent for CA in the tournament.
Plans for next time have already begun and the Third Biannual R.B.I. Baseball COTUT will be held in July. This move from winter to summer should allow for more out-of-staters and competitors to join. So I'll be holding you to your word that you'll have a representative present for that one.
Making it annual is brutal on those who organize the tournament. RBI and the tournament are quickly becoming our entire lives. We'll consider the annual idea, but the future of the COTUT (ie 32/64 players, annual/biannual, etc...) will be based upon how well this tournament goes.

Is the COTUT down the middle or curves?
QuoteThe Official RBI Baseball Championship of the Universe Tournament places no rules on pitching. We believe pitching is a forte in RBI Baseball.

We also don't place rules on the number of pitchers used per game. You may use all the team's pitchers due to the fact that the system is reset before playing your next series game. Consult the rules and regulations page at www.dee-nee.com/rbi/mbeales/rules.html for all the rules and regulations of the Second Biannual R.B.I. Baseball COTUT.

Oh jeez, with two starters I'm going to be scoring VERY few runs...
gantry you are going to look like one of the windmills that play for the milwaukee brewers... jose hernandez, sexson, jenkins...
If I get a big-swinging Brewer, I'd prefer Gorman Thomas - he had a great stache. Did he whiff constantly?
i must say that i have never heard of gorman thomas...how about rob deer?
Rob Deer is most solid, but you can't argue with the cheeze:
(http://dee-nee.com/rbi/pics/GThomas.jpg) (http://dee-nee.com/rbi/pics/gorman2.jpg)
Quick history - between 1978 & 1982, Gorman Thomas hit 32, 45, 38, 21 and 39 dingers. In that same span he struck out 133, 175, 170, 85 and 143 times. Remember that 1981 was a strike year. He would have made one hell of an RBI player, though he was righty...
that is quite a nice stache mr. thomas is sporting.
either way gantry, you had better start seeing some curve style action before the tourny or strike out records will be shattered.
So far we've only heard from 3 Cali RBI players who have responded to this post.... Where the rest at?
